I changed my tranny oil the other night. I noticed the spring came off with the out side cover plate. I went to put it back on and had to rotate the adjustment almost 1/4 turn to get it back on right. However I didnt pay attention to if I turned it CCW or CW. Either way I notice now when I shift between 1-2 2-3 sometimes 3-4 It will kind of catch like its nicking (new word I think) a gear.

My question is this. Can I WITHOUT releasing the tension on the clutch cable turn the adjuster screw in and back out like the manual says? Would this be the same? Or does anyone know if I should give it a 1/4 turn ccw or ccw to fix this?

Thanks

I did the same thing and noticed my clutch wasn't engauging in the same place it had before. It's a simple matter of taking it apart and adjusting again.

No. And no again. And I don't know if you don't remember which way you turned it.

I don't understand why you had to turn the screw 1/4 turn. The nut has six flats and has to mate with the rectangular head on the screw. You shouldn't have to turn the screw more than 15 degrees or so worst case. Rotate the locking nut 180 degrees to see which way fits or comes closest to fitting, then turn the screw a little if it does not.

It only takes about 10 minutes, I'd back the cable adjuster off and adjust the screw and then the cable again.

On the adjustment is it CCW just until you feel light contact, then 1/8th or 1/4 turn CW to unload the bearing.

That's about the only way to make sure that the adjusting nut is not riding on the bottom of the recess and that you don't have a running load on the adjuster screw bearing.

Then the cable freeplay (thickness of a quarter or so pulling away from the perch as hard as you can) puts the icing on the cake for harmonious shifting.

If it changes warmed up, tweak the cable length adjustment a little, like 1/4 turn at a time.
