on an 05xb12r can you run an aftermarket pipe(muffler)(odie, d&d, jardine, drummer, etc...) with the stock ecm and stock air filter? would like to buy pipe now, and later the ecm and air filter. just bought the bike and i am now low on funds, but really would like a little more sound.

I guess what 99buellx1 is saying is

1-this forum has covered this topic a zillion times, so if you are a masochist- do a search
What I say is:
- one half of the replies you get will say "god NO! it will run lean and burn up your motor/cause warranty issues/make your bike expolode, shorten lifetime

- the other half will say " I did it- bike ran fine"

GOOD LUCK

BTW I ran mine like that (race pipe, race air filter) for the time until my back ordered ECU arrived: I personally witnessed no carnage but "you never know

Bud689 - Run Odie's pipe. I ran one with stock ECM and air filter with no problems. He's a great guy and his pipe has a great sound. Also, he keeps the in interactive exhaust valve, so no conflicts with stock ECM.

The rest of you - BE NICER TO NEW (OR RELATIVELY NEW) PEOPLE POSTING! THIS AIN'T SACBORG.

What Aeholton said about being nice.

As far as your question
As long as you just do the pipe I think you'll be fine.
If it were me, I'd leave the air filter alone until you get the race ecm.
YMMV

What Aeholton and Daves said. I did the same thing when I got my Drummer. I ran mine for a couple months until I got a Race ecm, filter and a TFI unit. My bike ran great.

Daves its what he typed....

Sorry to beat dead horse some of us have a life and can't sit on the computer all day and night....

Bud I'm not one of the guys that are not willing to help with a question but it was how you came across at first. Kinda sounded like you were saying the people of this Board don't have a life. So in return they probably thought why ask a group of people that don't have lives. As far as your question Odie's got a great pipe as does Drummer for your application that you are inquiring about.}

My answer to your question is that I would not run a stock ECM with any aftermarket muffler and especially not with an opened airbox. Just ride the bike.

The following flies in the face of conventional wisdom. Take it for what its worth.

Early this summer Kevin told me that he was running the STOCK ECM in the Drummer racebike with great results. It's a tricked out XB9 that he will have to spec. for you since I don't remember all of what he did. He's campaigned the bike all summer that way & says it runs perfectly. 101 octane gas too.

So back in early June he asked me to switch my bike back to the stock ECM and test it. I've got an '06 XB12Ss, Drummer CF, K&N, Drummer Catch Can and open airbox. I've run it all summer and I can't tell the difference between the with the race ECM and with the stock ECN. I haven't put my data acquisition system on it yet as I've been too busy having fun just riding it. I can tell you it runs great, idles great, wheelies like a mofo, the plugs look good and tailpipe color is right on.

The only minor driveability issue I've had has been the same with both ECMs. That is a sputter when the engine is cold during the first mile or so. This got a bit worse when I opened up the airbox. Other than that, its all good.
