I am new to the board and glad to see such a well informed passionate community of Buell riders. My '06 VStar 1100 has been sitting in the garage since I bought my new '06 Ulysses last week (I think it may be jealous). I am very impressed by its capabilities and looking forward to getting my new exhaust so I can actually hear the wonderful V-Twin. I am balancing my excitement and wonder of the engineering marvels with my reoccurring doubt that I have purchased the wrong bike…but I so badly want it to be the right bike. I have the Low Seat and am 5’7” in height. I have to slide my ass over to the side to touch the ground on my tip toes. It’s a light bike so it’s not to unnerving or uncomfortable waiting at a light like that. I can barely flip up the kick stand because I can only touch on one side at a time. I feel like a kick boxer performing a roundhouse kick getting on and off the bike due to the high leg swing. I know there must Ulysses riders that are 5’7” and I want to know how they have managed. Should I lower the front and back? How much should I lower? Is americansportbike.com the recommended place to order parts and accessories (lowering kits)? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome, enjoy the ride.

These questions will likely be answered quicker, and more in depth if posted in the Big, Bad and Dirty forum. It is dedicated to the Uly.

I'm 5'10" and I was on my Tip Toes on the Ully. Didn't have the low seat but I would love to have one even though I would be "kickboxing" to get on!

If you decide to lower it I can hook you up with a guy that has already done a couple of them.
I am 5'10" and ride one with the stock seat. I too, have to slide over a little to get one foot down or both feet with toes just touching the ground.

I'm 5'-6" and have the 07 seat which seems to help. Can only touch with one foot as well. But I'm used to it.

You give me hope Rocketsprink. Someone told me it would cost between $500 and $1000 to lower...darn, I thought it might just take a spacer or bracket.

I'm 6 feet tall, but only a 29" inseam.
With my relatively short legs the Uly I sat on, 06 model, seemed to be too tall for comfort on the hilly terrain here.
When the 07s get to the dealer, I am anxious to try it out.
Anyone with short legs like mine, who got to try the 07s, let me know how it worked.

I really like the bike, but wouldn't like to go to the expense of revising the suspension to get my feet on the ground.

I've got the 06 with the 07 seat. I don't believe that any heights changed on the bike itself. My inseam is probably 28", so you got me beat.

Rocketsprink,
You're right, it would be the same as an 07.
Thanks for the input.

The '07 seat is even lower than the low seat, so I would give it a shot.

At 6' 2" I want to say that I love riding a bike that 'fits' me (esp after owning a sporty at one time).

My 2 cents though, is that growing up I rode a lot of dirt bikes (mainly Kawis) that were *always* very big for me at the time. I got used to sliding my butt over when stopping and found a non-embarrassing way of climbing on. It will become second nature before you know it and you'll start a "short Uly riders rule!" thread before too long...

Onemanclan - the only issue with sliding WAY over and / or climbing on is if you ride with a passenger. below a certain inseam length, the ergonomics, weight, and center of gravity with a passenger on makes it almost impossible to ride in stop and go traffic( let alone passenger+luggage). limit for the '07 seems to be in ~28" inseam range, and ~29" for the earlier Uly's.

at my height ( 5'4")hopping right off doesn't work with a passenger either - you'd end up kicking your passenger in the thigh, or head trying to hop back on fast when the lights turn green.

having said all that, with a 'normal' build, I'd have to say someone who's 5'7" shouldn't have anything more than a learning curve with the '07 Uly. I tried one out the last time I was in the dealership, and solo riding was actually decent - didn't have a passenger with me at the time, but seeing as I wasn't having to step right off the bike, I'm guessing it would have been manageable. ( albeit 'managable' doesn't mean easy, or comfortable)

$0.02, ymmv
