I come from owning just about any kind of bike you could think of. Everything from ZX-11 to Goldwing. Racebikes, dirtbikes, pitbikes, etc. The jap bikes certainly have tons of performance, reliability and can be fun, but after riding them for years and years, one is just about like the next. That is where I ran into Buell. I rode a buell and it was the first time in a long time that I came back with a smile under my helmet. So I have been in search of my own XB, Lightning or Firebolt, which ever I can find the best deal on. I am not searching for a new bike, used only as I do have a budget. Upon searching I ran into a couple people that suggested I take a look at the Triumph Speed Triple. I finally did and it does sound like a viable alternative. What I like about the Buell is that it is a bike that actually has character. The same could perhaps be said of the Triumph. I have ridden a Buell, I have not ridden a Triumph. I want to know if any of you have had this same dilemma or if anyone has ridden both bikes? I am looking for a little insight here. Any would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks! | ||

Welcome to BadWeB! Many have come down to that same decision with the Ducati Monster, and SV650/1000 thrown in as well. The best advice I can give you is to go with what moves you. Riding is one of life's passions, and the emotional appeal is a stronger pull than logic with most people. You can't ride a spec sheet!  If the Buell makes you smile, and mine does every time I ride it, then you are on the right track. It is not the fastest bike on the road, but if you can accept that and enjoy it for what it is. It's a torquey, razor sharp handling piece of exquisite engineering. After all, how often can you use speed beyond 140mph and still keep your license? | ||

I test road all of the "naked" bikes: Ducati, Aprilia, Honda, Triumph, Buell, Suzuki, etc... and liked them all, I just liked the Buell better. Ease and cost of maintenance, cost of parts, easy to performance modify, huge support community (Badweb, etc.) handling, sound, unique, and the cool factor put me on a Buell. Now I have 2 Buells and I'd like to add another. You can pick up a nice, used Buell for short money. The Buell support community makes this bike the one to own. Any and all questions are answered here... To me, that alone tips the decision heavily on the Buell side. | ||

Another thing to consider: Maintenance is a given element in bike ownership, regardless of brand. Consider WHERE the parts will have to be shipped from if something breaks. Consider the equation, S = D x C, where S is Satisfaction, D is Downtime, and C is Cost. ...maybe I have it wrong, should it be long division instead? It also helps to really love just looking at it sitting in the garage! Every time I see my Bolt out there, I love it just that little bit more, and I've had it over 1.5 years now. It has officially taken over my "Favorite Bike" spot in my heart from my former number 1, which was my 97 Suzuki TL1000S (put 18k miles on that bike). Billy | ||

Traded my 9S in last year on my Uly and missed it ever since. Just bought another (excellent condition) 9S from a Badwebber for $4450. I challenge anyone to find a more fun bike in that price range. B00001, there are more deals like this out there! Bret |
