I just moved to Golden, CO and want to get the lowdown on where to ride near home. I don't care about scenery, I'll get that on my bicycle. I'm looking for lots of turns and NO COPS. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Scott | ||

Hey Scott I have always dreamed of riding out in colorado. I,ve been snowboarding for 12 years but have never been there in the summer. You should check out some of the passes like loveland and stuff around summit county. Post some pics if you find some cool stuff. Careful on those switch backs. How do the bikes run when they get up over 6 thousand feet? | ||

Cmm, Bike adjusts great to altitude. Can not tell any difference at 11,000 feet. | ||

Well so far with my vacation to Colorado has been great. However, the only bikes I have seen here so far has been 2 S1's and a BMW GS with Great Britain Tags. his website is www.pooleglobaltrek.com. I met him at Independence Ghost Town on Highway 82 west of Aspen going to Independence Pass. He shipped bike over from Great Britain. Him and his wife are doing a huge 6 month travel through North America. Plan on returning home in January of 2007. Totally amazing and just fantastic to listen to some of His (Nick) adventures. But I didn't get a chance to bring my bikes, my wife wouldn't let me for money reasons. So I am stuck with the high gas prices in my Jeep to go through and visit places. But, none the less, the mountains have been a real joy, and I find Highway 82 out of Aspen is a nice windy roads. Plus the concrete or pavement are in great shape in most scenarios. Try hwy 149 from south fork to gunnison, great road with lots of curves. Another is the "million dollar hwy" between montrose and Durango. It was just re-paved this year. I go up to Colorado at least once a month for weekend rides. Beautiful country with lots of curves and friendly cops. I've been pulled over a few times, but with a little respect all i've ever gotten is a warning. I love Colorado!!! | ||

I just got back from a 10 day trip out there. Like Bartimus said Hwy 149 is awesome but watch out for the chip in seal, went thru 20 miles of it that had just been laid down. Also the ride from Gunnison to Montrose is a fun 100 mile ride. Then you might as well ride to Ouray and Silverton and then on to Durango. The great thing I foundout about CO is that pretty much you can find great rides everywhere. Also I found a few roads in between Denver and Colorado Springs about 60 mile stretches that where awesome. Just get a great map and go explore, that's what I did. |
