hey while in sturgis this year my side stand broke for the second time bike is still under warranty and spending 8+hours at black hills hd(not my favorite place) only for them to tell me they had to order the part so i pitched a fit a 32 yr old 320 lb temper tantrum and not ashamed to say it, i got them to steal one off a trade at least to get me back on the road but as they gave the bike back they said there was a recall on the stands i have got no notice of such has anyone heard of this or maybe have the part number(s) for this upgrade oh 04xb12r

To the best of my knowledge, the 2004 XB12R is one of the few Buell models that has not had any recalls.

Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.

That said, I hate my side stand. It scares me just looking at it. My pivot bolt sheared off at the shoulder and the bike "almost" went down while warming up. I say almost because that's exactly it. The bike did not hit the ground because the lean angle sensor killed the ignition so it stopped shaking and it actually remained at rest on the pivot flange of the kickstand even though it had bent about 60 degrees! The bike was actually being held up on a folded-over piece of metal with NO BOLT going through it!

I wish I had the presence of mind to snap a picture of it when it happened but I panicked when I saw it and just yanked the bike up. When I saw there were ZERO scratches I said a little prayer to thank God for physically intervening for me and put the bike up on my service stands.

I still have the same stand, which I heated up a bit and took to it with hammer and anvil, pounding it back into shape. New pivot bolt with a ton of loctite and a spare under the seat. I always lean the bike into a hill or park on a 2x4 now. The stock lean angle on the stand is overkill in my opinion.

Oh yeah, I just upgraded to a shiny chrome spring from American Sport Bike !!!

funny, my stand broke last week. The bolt just sheared at where it goes smaller to thread in. Kinda of a bad design if you ask me. and that freaking special bolt is $8! A bolt!

$8 is a steal! I paid $28 for two of them.

They shear off because they back out from vibration. Gob it up real good with loc tite when you put it back together, and don't move the bike till it's dry. 2 years now since it happened to me, and the bolt has stayed put since then.

Use Red! Blue let loose twice on mine. Like Pwnzor said, "gob it up" "and let it dry"

Also it is a good idea to clean everything off real good.

is this a problem that has been remedied in the newer bikes, I just bought XB9SX 06 and I am now wondering if I should be checking this bolt to be tight every time I check the tire pressures.

Maybe they should put it in their pre ride Check list haha

Yes.

The recall provides specific population identity; the first and last effected bikes.

It'll be on the Feds website, any of those consumer recall websites and ALL Buell dealers have it.

Apparently, only the 2003 XB's were recalled due to broken sidestand issues, and the recall affects the sidestand, not the bolt. The 2004 XB's have no recalls with the exception of the horn bolt. The 2005 XB's have a sidestand related recall, but it relates to the stand not coming up if if touches the ground while in motion. The recall replaces the pivot bolt with one that's 0.1" longer. Only the 2006 City-X has a recall that replaces sidestand pivot bolts and bracket assemblies due to possible bolt breakage.

If you want specific details, go to www.nhtsa.com

Steve.

Livnlo,
Just a side note, but at 32, shouldn't you have SOME idea how to use punctuation when typing?

Sorry, couldn't pass that one up!

Buell sent me a recall on my 06 xb12x kickstand about a month ago, went to the dealer, got on the waiting list," call you when they come in ", no call yet.....There replacing the whole stand not just the bolt, new bolt has longer shoulder less threads. I saw the dealer recall notice.

"Only the 2006 City-X has a recall that replaces sidestand pivot bolts and bracket assemblies due to possible bolt breakage."

Wait I am confused, I just went to the site www.nhtsa.com and it only listed the XB12SX as having a recall not the City X (XB9SX) for the 2006 model year.

I too was wondering about a recall cause I seem to have suffered this exact same fate....

http://www.recalls.gov.au/view_recall_detail.php?Recall_ID_Auto=14297

I just been through the bike on it's side deal cause of a sheared sidestand bolt on my 2004 XB9R (yes a real 2004 one). Let me see, Cluth lever, Front indicator, Footpeg feeler, Mirror.....very glad Dave came to the rescue cause parts were unobtainable in Aust and that the damage was limilted to these parts. Actually quite impressed at the crash-a-bility compared to previous bikes.

Sheesh, you guys are awfully uptight! Does that lil' smiley at the end of my post look like I'm serious?

It was a J-O-K-E.
(See, there it was again!)

Livnlo, hope your punctuation-deprived tantrum at the dealer gets some results. Good luck! I know I'd be ticked about that mess as well!
