Last week I went riding and the rivets on the front of my Jardine came undone and the pipe came apart on me. I immediately knew something was wrong when the bike sounded like ass. So I unhooked the hanging pipe and went home with my tail beneath my legs.

After searching I found that this was pretty common with Jardine. I really like the pipe so i decided to buy 1lb of stainless steel wool packing in place of the toasted fiber glass that was in it.

This is what I ended up getting. http://www.briwax-online.com/GMTStainless.html

I went with 1lb of course wool. It arrived in a tiny box and when I saw the size of it I didn't think I would have enough but 1lb is more than enough for a jardine pipe.

Packing it didn't take long and i'm pretty happy with the coverage inside the pipe. all I need to do is take the pipe in to get it welded and i'm done.

I repacked my Jardine with "Silent Sport" it's a white fibre material, they use it in 4x4, moto cross & some superbikes.
I replaced the front rivits with some larger SS ones.
To ensure a good seal I used a high temp silicon gasget sealant.

I also took out one of the wire mesh grille's inside the core, Jardine place this in to limit the fibre glass burn out, with the Silent Sport it doesn't need it, only the main central core.

Sounds much better, extremely deep sound.
very very happy with the result.

The Jardine WILL come apart IF the packing has blown out of it.

If you own a Jardine you need to pay attention to the packing or you'll be in for trouble.

Always use Stainless Steel rivets. The aluminum rivets will shear!

My packing was still good when it came apart on me. My reasoning behind it is where it hooks up to the headers is a major stress point. The brace towards the back of the bike doesn't do much to support it because it has a layer of rubber and that doesn't constrain the pipe all that well. With all the violent shaking that the bike does it cause the rivets to looses dues to the constant shear action taking place. I think welding the front would cure that.

I'll see if I'm going that way when the mongoose comes out.

I do find the Drummer SS tempting though.
