Ok only owning my New 06 XB9SX for a few days now I had to wash it because I was cought in the rain the second day I had it. When I was washing it I heard a funny Gargle noise a few times that kinda sounded like the water was going through some tubes or something. Now I imagine its nothing and probably just a drain, but I was kinda curious if someone else has heard it before and knew where the drain was. It sounded like it was coming from the lower half of the bike I fired it up after wards, and test rode it and it was fine Also is their drains in the air box, because it is pretty easy to get water into the airbox through that opening, either while washing or riding in the rain thanks |

Hello Punk Kid, I just finished cleaning my XB9SX, 2006 and used a lot of water and soap. Didn't hear a thing but with slightly warm bike you could hear some "gragle" noises. Don't worry about water getting in the airbox, (if you don't put your hose in the air-intake) because that box is so well closed that water or air can hardly get in. Just installed an open airbox on my city and the difference is amazing. Got rid of that dip in the power-curve around 3000 rpm and you get adrenalin sound out of the airbox.Water could get in my paper filter but not if you use an oiled K&N filter.

Wash is what I do before I service the bike. I also live on a gravel road. |

A little off the Wash topic, but does the open aribox conversion kit make power noticeably? Also, does it make a different sounds...like a high pitch sound....also would it compare to it if i drilled a crap load of holes into my black inner cover? Thanks-Brad |

So I should not worry about the gargling noise? but any idea what it is, or just one of those Buell Noises? Yea I Actually have noticed a slight decrease in power around that RPM, and if that open air box mod helps that, then I would be very interested. Is it like a kit you buy or something, honestly I have not even looked to see what it looks like stock. And holy crap with out that air box the translucent really works, that pic is unbelivable. Tell me how to do it |

Yep it does, the power increase is noticeably, not masses of horses but a smoother power curve and a slightly faster gas response. Ad to that the cheer noise that comes out your airbox when you open the throttle ... the hole thing resonates like hell so you'll get the impression of going even faster.(nomal sound level when at constant speed) The pict was just a last minute lucky shot at night, with the flash-light but in broad daylight is looks also much better to the black, closed airbox. At about $ 75 it is a cheap little item to ad to your bike. |

The sound may be from the transmission vent tube. I get this on my S3 fairly regularly when the bike is cooling down after being hot. I've gotten down on the ground and gotten as close to the sound as I could get and it seems to be coming from the general area of the tranny. I've seen several posts on this noise here before. The best theory I've read is that this is moisture which has condensed in the transmission oil being boiled off by the heat. At any rate, it's never caused a problem. |
