Alot of harleys run straight pipes, how would a buell handle it and would it need to be remapped?

It would definitely need to be re-mapped or it won't run well and could cause damage from running excessively lean.

It would take alot more than straight pipes to make an xb have "NO LOW END TORQUE WHAT SO EVER". I have pretty much "straight piped" my stock can and I will say it did take away some low end. I can still power the front tire off the ground at low speeds, but when i have raced a stock 12r he can get just in front of me till we hit about 75 then it pretty much evens out again, I can maybe hit top end a little faster but what ever, I did it mostly for sound. Also I put the race ecm in it and opened the air box and threw in a K&N air filter, as far as performance it may have lost a little but i think it sounds good for what it cost me. I must say I think I see a Micron in the future.

Just curious isn't southern California where they are allegedly seizing and crushing bikes for excessive noise????????

I have a Latus muffler on my bike, it was on the bike in the showroom when I bought the bike new.
The first time I went to redline it caused my ears to ring for 2 days.
I had to use ear plugs to ride.
The noise was painful and obnoxious.
I fabricated some baffles that fit into the two outlets of the muffler.
It's still a loud pipe, but I don't need the ear plugs anymore.
Running a straight pipe is probably un-lawful in most states and the noise only causes trouble for all motorcyclists.

Who cares? What do you get out of it? A loud bike, hearing damage, and annoying everyone else.

In my rather opinionated little world........

People that buy pipes because they are loud are morons. Doing it for performance is one thing. Doing it to get noticed screams "My mommy never gave me enough attention".

If you want a straight pipe you have to do it right.

I have a KT on my bike with XB heads, pistons and similar cams.

With that I am making 95Hp 94Ftlb(hmmm no torque loss there)

The secret is in the design

The head pipes have a smaller diameter than stock which increases the gas velocity into a large 3 inch diameter collector which really helps the back pressure.

The pipe going back from the collector is also 3 inches in diameter and is about 3 2.5 feet long.

It is loud, and my annoy people but removing it and putting on a few other pipes and slip-ons and none had the performance of the KT.

PS
Torque cones only work on two into two straights...

Loud pipes don't save lives, they annoy non-riders and except in very slow traffic,
only make your presence known after you have passed another vehicle.

Awareness of your surroundings, good gear, and properly honed skills save lives.
A little luck doesn't hurt either.

funny thing about loud/straight pipes...many cities and counties are now banning them. In my home town it's a $400 fine for the first offence and an escort to the city limits. Impounding the vehicle on second offence.

Okay, show ONE post where I've asked how to wheelie better, do stoppies, etc.

Loud pipes do NOT save lives. Loud pipes DO piss off the non-motorcycle riding public resulting is anti-motorcycle (packaged as anti-noise) legislation.

Hmmm, Since I`ve recently put a louder pipe on (no not straight throughs) I`ve noticed that when coming up behind cars or passing them I can now see the drivers & other occupants of the vehicle physically twisting & swinging their heads around to see where the bike is they can hear.
Something I didnt notice with a quieter pipe.
Thats the kind of result I desired from a louder pipe.
Hey it may piss off some people, but I get pissed off myself when being hit by someone who didn't know I was there.
I know which option I`d choose anyday.

Cheers

Murdoch

Whoooaaaa touchey LMAO

I didn't say you, you must have a complex?

I could care less about the non-motorcycle public anymore.

In the last week I have been cut off 5 times, had someone come head on in my lane on a 2-lane road just so he/she could get into the center turn lane 3 cars ahead.

My fav,
A guy tried to drive me into the orange barrels of a construction zone cause he thought I was tryin to get ahead of traffic when I was tryin to make a right turn onto the freeway ramp just up ahead, and yes the lane was open till the ramp.

I am dropping my AMA membership when the year is up cause they are one of the ones legislating against loud pipes.

Yes they support groups that want to abolish the helmet law but don't like loud pipes, WTF.

You know I do not like tuned out rice cars but I am not going to legislate against them.

Maybe you can do it for me ;)

Loud pipes are already legislated against.
The federal government via the EPA sets noise standards.
If people continue to run open pipes and way too loud mufflers, we can look to a crackdown that limits any changes we can make to our exhausts.
We will all suffer.

<rant>
And when EVERYONE, cars and motorcycles all have loud pipes... then how do you know when there's a bike coming up on you? Or a car for that matter through the cacophony? People who advocate loud pipes seem to think they're safe if they're the ONLY ones with the loud pipe, and don't take into consideration when EVERYONE has 'em. Keep the pipes quiet and just pay attention to what's going on around you, you'll be a LOT safer. Loud pipes are only a help when the government bans the deaf from driving and that ain't gonna happen soon. Besides, how many times have you heard a siren in traffic and had NO clue where it was coming from?? Loud pipes are most obvious to the people BEHIND you who not only are aware of you but are plotting violent ways of shutting your bike up, not the people in front of you who can do you the most harm. The more idiots who run loud pipes, the more the non-riding public will vote for anti-motorcycle legislation making the rest of our lives miserable. The AMA would be more effective if they didn't have to keep fighting unfair noise ordinances because bikers with "inadequate equipment" find it necessary to over compensate!!

Just for clarification,
I do not run a loud pipe because it "Saves lives" that is BS.
I run it because it is the best pipe for HP on my bike.

and

People in front of you can hear your pipe cause unless you are going over 340.29m/s at sealevel and at 20 degrees Centigrade
(the number will change depending on temp and altitude but you get the point;))

THIS IS SO IRONIC CAUSE I TOOK OFF MY MUFF TO POLISH IT AND STARTED THE BIKE AND IT SOUNDS BALLSEY.

LOUD PIPES DO SAVE LIVES AND SCARE AWAY DEER AND SOUND COOL.

SO THE NEXT TIME YOU ARE RIDING AROUND AND A CARE CUTS YOU OFF OR A DEER JUMPS OUT AND JUST STANDS THERE, MAYBE YOU THEN RE CONSIDER YOU QUIET BIKE THAT SOUND LIKE A RICKITY SCOOTER

Quit yelling. I must say your command of the keyboard, and its parallel to the loud handle, gives great credence to your position.
