Not that I would condone speeding or anything, I just found this interesting. "It jams lasers to the gun"

One of the guys on our last ride had an Escort radar detector, and lemme tell you, 98% of the time, he tapped his helmet, and sure enough, there was a cop up ahead..that thing was fantastic...AND, the cop was FAR enough up ahead, that we all had a chance to slow down...

Detectors work, but jammers...? Well, 1st of all, they're illegal in almost every state (if memory serves me). 2nd, jammers don't stop signals altogether, they feed false information back to the gun. From what I've heard, it usually shows an impossibly high speed, or scrambled, random speeds. Either way, the cops will know something's up, and we go back to point 1 (illegal).

Detectors are mostly legal because you're simply picking up ambient signals. Jammers are illegal because you are trying to directly impede law enforcement.

I wouldn't mind a detector, more for my car than my bike (safety features make me a little more confident!). I've always wanted a Valentine 1, but last I checked, they're $400! Better spent on Buell parts....

RADAR - regulated by the FCC - illegal to jam.

LASER - regulated by the FDA - OK to jam.

..or so I was told.

I guess the laser jammers show the user of the "gun" the signal that the shot was "mis-targeted".
and for those of you that live in areas that radar detectors are illegal (CT., DC.) watch out for the VG2. It can detect your detector! Most detectors have shielding for it now, but you never know...

Radar detectors are legal in the UK. Some years ago they were not, until someone went to court and set a precedent.

The UK law was enforced under the 1949 'wireless and telegraphy act' section so and so, subsection yada yada. Turns out after months of research and all manner of legal jargon, the chap being prosecuted got off because radar detectors don't 'listen' to wireless or telegraph waves or something like that. Radar therefore cannot be seen to be using wireless or telegraph 'broadcasting' to detect speed measuring devices used by the police. Since then, all camera sites, including mobile cameras, are published in the aid of safety. The idea being you will intentionally slow down if cameras are present. Sadly though for the road user, the government, police and safety camera partnerships are bending the rules to suit them. The most likely explanation, though of course never admitted, is the cameras are nothing more than revenue collectors. We live in dark times when it comes to main roads in the UK. New legislation has just been passed last week giving local authorities the green light to reduce speed limits to 40mph on rural open roads no matter how far off the beaten track they are. It can only get worse in the UK.

So jammers. Swordsman might have something that crosses over as relevant to our American cousins given the way the UK system works. I believe what happens when a jammer is in use the relevant speed detection equipment reads 'error'. When the operator of said equipment sees such a message the 'home office directive' issued to police forces nationwide is to flag the vehicle in question. When the information from the speed detection equipment is downloaded into the central computer at the end of every working shift, that flagged vehicle is known. If your vehicle is flagged twice at anytime sooner or later then the police may well call at your door. In the case of one fella who had 16 flags across several counties, the police arrived at his home at 6am, in force and with recovery vehicle. They arrested the fella and impounded his BMW to the local police station. Within minutes they found a jammer. He was prosecuted. You takes your chances.
