What year did Buell change the transmissions in the firebolt with the better feel clutch and smoother shifting? I thought it was 04 but couldn't remember. Oh yeah and the belt upgrade 04 or 05 ?

Let me tell ya, the difference between and 05 and an 06 is night and day

My 05 CityX shifted like a Harley. Clunky, long and Loud
My 06 Firebolt shifts like my japanese sportbikes.
It's really nice pulling it into neutral and NOT having to look to make sure.
I have never missed a first to second gear shift on the 06 either.

That may all be true, but now that I've done my 5,000 mile (changed oil & trans fluid & adjusted clutch and primary chain), I can attest to the same night and dey change [for the better]. If you have a pre 06 trans and you have any complaints - it's time you do your routine maintenence.

I dunno anything about Firebolts, but I would imagine that all the Buell '06 models use the same tranny, right? If you're considering the tranny in my Ss to be "unclunky"...... well, I would have hated to see how bad it was before! 1st gear from neutral is always a big enough ka-CHUNK to bounce the whole bike! I like the feel of it though... with my last ride (a small cc Yamaha) I could never tell if I had actually changed the gear, or if it had caught in the middle (which it did often). I like having a heavier clutch as well... gives more feedback when engaging.

If your Ss is shifting like that, there's something seriously wrong. My Ss shifts like a Japanese bike... "Click," not "Clunk."

My 00 M2 Cyclone DEFINITELY "Clunked." Sounded like dropping a bucket of bricks when shifting from neutral to first. Several dealers/mechanics told me that was normal. All of my Harley-riding friends confirmed: "That's normal."

The 06's shift like sportbikes SHOULD shift.
