Ok I did try the search button but gave up after 30 minutes. I finally wore out the old Dunlop 207 with 5,000 miles on it and I think I am going to try Michelins instead. I know they make the Pilot Road and the Pilot Sport. I was thinking about going with a tire that gets more miles since I am doing more long distance traveling. So the Road. Does anyone ride on these? Or can recommend a tires that will last longer than the Dunlops I had? | ||

I put a set of Pilot Roads on my S3 just over a year ago. I've got about 7500 miles on them now and they're holding up well. I won't be surprised if I get over 10k out of them. They stick well in the dry and wet. No complaints. | ||

I love the Roads...have been running them for the last 20,000 miles now (just changed to the third rear). I get about 9500 miles on a rear and about 12, 000 - 13, 000 on a front. The nice thing about the Roads is they grip really well and give you A LOT of tread which is why they last. The tread blocks are about 1/4" deep on the rear and over 1/8" on the front. | ||

I, also, have been running with the Pilot Roads front and back, mainly for extended mileage. I have 13,400 miles on the front tire. It is nearly due for a replacement. I have 9,000 miles on the rear tire. It has noticeable wear down the middle; however, I expect to get 13,000 miles out of the rear Pilot Road since my last rear tire was a Metzler Z6 which lasted 13,000 miles. As with all front tires, as the tread wears down to almost bare in the middle, the handling characteristics deteriorate appropriately. With the Z6, steering became harder and harder to initiate. With the Pilot Roads this is also true, but the Roads are also exhibiting a low-speed "shimmy" due to the way it has worn on my front. I only notice it when I am creeping along in traffic or coming to a stop at lights. The profile feels more like a pyramid rather than an oval, so the tire wants to "fall over" either left or right if the tire is angled off center. It is a quirk that I am noticing more and more now that the tire is due for replacement. I am leaning toward purchasing Pilot Roads again because I felt they offered better grip, handling, and feel over the Z6. I do feel the Roads offer better wet traction over the Z6, too. YMMV. | ||

Another high performance road tire is the Pirelli Diablo Stradas. A friend of mine has them on his Ducati Monster, and he goes just as fast as anyone else on "sticky buns". Talking about "spirited" street riding here. He has about 5 K miles on them, and they really don't look the slightest bit worn. | ||

I put a set of Michelin Roads on this spring, have got about 3500 miles on em so far, they're holding up great with lots of tread left. They're sticky enuf for me, and they "feel" alot better than either set of Dunlops that came off. | ||

I went with the Pilot Road's after 15k miles of Dunlop 220's. So far they are performing great, wet or dry. I'm also going to get about 2000 more miles out of the rear than the Dunlop's. I found them for $92 front and $121 rear. | ||

I have Diablo Stradas on my Uly now and have 4100 miles on them. The rear is 2/3rds gone so it will only be a little better than the D205 on the M2. I really was disappointed with the tires not because they were that bad, just that I expected them to be so much better than the Dunlop. The D616 stick better but do not last as long and have that high speed wobble thing going on. While the D207 on Front, D205 on Rear set up of the M2 work better in all road conditions and last almost as long. I expect only 6K-7K out of the Diablo rear, while I get 5K-6K out of the Dunlop rear. The Diablo Strada reminds me of a Bias-Ply Tire. They slip over painted lines and tar strips, plus follow road grooves very much like the Dunlop K505 Bias-ply tires that came on my old Honda. On the flip side the turn in with the Diablos are much better than the D207/D205 Dunlops. These Dunlops are too neutral on center and give the bike a slow feel. I want to check out the Pirelli Sync next and if they are not better than the Diablo Stradas, I would like to try the Conti or the Pilot Road. (Message edited by M2nc on August 21, 2006) | ||

The scorpion syncs are ok I guess.. I was quite shocked that I'm about less than half a mm of hitting my wear bars on the rear, and it felt that I had just changed them out not too long ago. After a brief moment of reflection I realized that I had changed them out close to the end of last season (that was just under 6500 miles or 10,000 kms ago).. The stock dunlops were gone after just under 4800 miles or 8000 kms... I'll most likely finish out this season on this rear with about 6 weeks of riding left (that is if I keep it within the city limits)... Hmm 6 weeks.. a potential of about an extra 4000 - 5000 miles.. now possibly less since the weekends are getting booked up with non-riding activities.. I guess the sync's aggressive tread pattern just gave me the illusion of having more tread than I really do.. From the looks of things the front will mostly likely be swapped out once my next rear is done.. | ||

I'm now testing the Pilot Roads against the Diablo Stradas. Both are better than the Dunlops so far... Can't say much for the mileage as I've put less than 1k on each set. |
