I hope someone can help me out here. Last Monday I noticed a "new" rattle riding back and forth from work. It was definately coming from the front of the bike but I could not locate the problem because I would only hear it when rolling over bumps. Yesterday (in a fit of determination and by the grace of God) I noticed that the front, left engine mount was GONE. This is the bolt that faces the forks just behind the clutch cable. Skully gave me the part number AA0712.2CZB. I can't figure our if this is a 3/8-16 or a 7/16-14 cap screw bolt. I took the remaining bolt out and went down to Lowe's and it wouldn't thread onto the 3/8-16 test fixture but it would thread onto the 7/16. But as luck would have it, they didn't have it in a cap screw version... only hex head. The local HD/Buell shope wants $4 a pop!! Any help would be very much appreciated.

The ACE Hardware near me has a very large selection of hardware including cap screws of different sizes and grades. Some Ace's are better than others. It's worth a try. You want a high strength cap screw, grade 8. Four dollars may seem a lot, but you don't want a lesser strength bolt to fail either. When you look at it that way, four dollars is cheap insurance.

Good luck and Ride Safe.

How much gas are you going to burn to try and save a few cents?

I'm all for saving money, but not on a $4 bolt that holds the engine.

Whats the big deal about a $4.00 bolt. That is cheap considering what's riding on it.

Replacement parts are on the way. My grip wasn't so much that I couldn't find hardware, but that something (I consider to be) critical like that would simply back out. I don't know if anyone else has had this happen but it was alarming to discover after riding 300+ miles across Talihena drive (sp.) and back then two more weeks of back and forth to work.
