 I was just curious what tools everyone carries with them out on the highway, and for that matter, how they carry them... the stock tool pouch seems tiny to the point of uselessness. What are the handiest items to have for the XB's most common problems? Thanks! ~SM | ||

tire guage, 4" crescent wrench for preload adjustments, small flat blade screw driver for suspension damping adjustments, spare screws IE: shifter linkage screws, body work screws as both have fallen out on long rides. | ||

Sorry Brine, but the search won't work at the office. Something to do with the Internet security they have us on... always loops me back to a blank search or my login. I actually have to post 4 times to even reach Badweb. 1st time errors, 2nd time previews, 3rd time errors, 4th time submits, like clockwork!  ~SM | ||

Hey no biggie... I was just making you aware the functions were there, not jumping down your throat for it. I don't carry any extra parts besides the provided toolkit. I have roadside assistance,and if my bike breaks for some unseen reason that isn't my fault I WILL be way too hot headed to fix it myself without breaking multiple things in the process. Then again, unlike most of these guys, I'm not in the states, and I fear getting lost or running out of fuel on the economy. So I don't venture very far unless accompanied by a cage, or a few more bikes. | ||

In the ziplock where I keep the insurance card & warranty card and registration, I like to keep a few extra rolling papers, cause you just never know... | ||

I carry a Leatherman, a small adjustable wrench (which has tools in the handle as well, a la pocketknife), and some assorted allens. All of these fit easily with some room left over in my Firebolt's trunk. When going on a longer trip, I pack more tools, including a ratchet or two and some sockets...I can usually fit those in the trunk as well. I try not to get too crazy, as I have confidence in my bike. =D | ||

Under seat: 8 inch adjustable wrench ( smallest tool usable for axle nut wrench) T-27 torx, allen wrenches 1/8 through 3/8" the factory supplied 7/8" axle nut wrench and screwdriver, tire pressure guage, roll of e-tape, very small flashlight. Behind flyscreen: tire plug kit, spare H7 bulb. In tankbag: first aid kit, 9/16 wrench, spare ammo. (Message edited by fullpower on August 11, 2006) | ||

Spare plugs and tools to change em. (3/8 ratchet, an extension, a 3/8 swivel, and a spark plug socket)you never know when your gonna foul a plug. I also carry a set of allens, vice grips and zip ties. On a long trip Ill pawn off all the crap needed to change a tire as well on a fellow rider with an Electra Glide. Theres just no way to carry a big ratchet or a breaker bar on a 12R. |
