Well I had to take my rear wheel down to the dealer to change out the wheel bearings under recall. I already had the replacment bearings in hand so Quaid said they could get it today as the wheel was already off the bike.

They then ran the VIN on my 03 XB9 and said that the recall was for bikes made later than mine. WTF? The bearings are the ones with the black seals that everyones says are the recalled version! They are the original bearings!

I really needed the bike running by Monday to commute to a new job I have. So I agreed to pay the half hour labor and headed out to return later today.

I get home and a couple of hours later I get a call. Seems that Quaid does not have or can not find their XB wheel bearing remover............... (I bet they got 459 bearing removers for prissy chrome bikes though.

So I am stuck driving my 10mpg truck to Riverside all next week in the hopes that they get a new tool ordered and instock soon.

Court is there anything you can do to convince the dealer that my freaking black seal bearings are under recall? After all one blew out! Should I just try CS at BMC?

Thanks for putting up with the Rant.

Sounds like a crock to me. What month/year does the sticker on your frame say?

Quaid HD in Loma Linda. It is a crock! My bike says August of 02 on the sticker. Supposedly the recall is only for bikes mae after Nov 7th.

Is this possible? Do I have one of only a very small number of 02 XB's?

This sux.

Skyguy, print this out and take it with you, or e-mail them the link. It explains it pretty well. Good luck!
I hate to hear this kind of thing!

What may have confused them is that it is not a recall, it is a free performance upgrade. They may not have looked in the right place in their paperwork at the dealer. The Glitch print-out says it all.

I am looking at taking a "real" job for a few months and will only have the dreaded weekends to ride ): It is going to suck but it is also the easiest way to finish my commercial balloon license.

So hmmm How about next weekend?

Dang it!!

By the way, every Tuesday night we have Dinner at Newcomb's Ranch on Angeles Crest at 7 PM. Bummer for you is the Crest is still closed West of Wrightwood.

I don't mind the closure to much I just run out past Mile High Cafe and thru upper Tijunga to The Ranch. It is a 260 mile loop but fun.

Might have to catch you guys for dinner one eve.
