According to the Buell specs (see link below) the 12 is 10 pounds less than the 9. Tell me this is a typo? Other than fuel delivery, Primary Ratio and Stroke the technical specs are identical. So how could the 12 be 10 pounds lighter? This is true of the 12R/12X vs the 9R/9SX so I'm wondering if there really is a weight difference? I know the muffler is also different but surely that doesn't account for 10 pounds.

Interesting.
I have no answer.
But since factory specs aren't famous for being real world, there's no telling why.

From what I see the 9 is 10lbs ligther than the 12. Im not sure what you are looking at, maybe "load" instead of "dry weight"?

Dry Weight
12R = 395
9R = 385

I think you are confusing the load capacity, which is
12r = 388
9r =398

meaning that because the 2 bikes have the same GVW (bike weight and load capacity) the 12r can carry less weight because it by itself weighs 10lbs more the 9r

Me thinks the 12 crank assy is heavier than the nines , not the total 10 lbs but some of it.

What about the cylinder bore? Doesn't that affect weight in the other direction? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cylinder bore is identical in both engines--the 12 just has a longer stroke.

Yep, was looking and load capacity instead of dry weight. Still though what makes the 12 that much heaver?

There is a 1.5kg (3.3lb) difference in the mufflers.
ie.
XB12 Stock pipe 8.5kg
XB9 stock pipe 7.0kg
(Race kit pipe 5.5kg)

The rest of the weight difference must be in the crank assembly (the servo motor weighs next to nothing).
