Ok, I know this topic has probably been beaten to death so I apologize if I'm bringing up a sore or over-tired subject. I'm looking to rid my bike of the cheese grater like most everyone seems to do and thought I would try to just get a nice new tail piece as opposed to cutting up my stock one. The only place I've been able to find anything is with Trojan who obviously has some really nice looking pieces. But the cost is just too much to justify. Aren't there any manufacturers in the US? Does anyone offer a clean replacement for less than $300?? That seems pretty steep to me for a piece of fiberglass! It baffles me that the only place to get these parts for an "American Motorcycle" is across the pond. | ||

Unfortunately, IronMachine doesn't have the one I like from Trojan. They only seem to have the modified stock one or a CF version of the stock one. I guess this is just one of the pitfalls of owning a Buell as opposed to a a more mainstream bike. There's not nearly as much available on the aftermarket which drives the cost up. Of course, the stuff from Trojan wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the currency exchange rate! | ||

Check with Odie of Special-Ops..a forum sponsor. For around $150 he'll chop or swap out a stock tail piece. It looks factory and the workmanship is great. Check my profile for a pic. Many ppl have had it done and are very happy. He does include a license plate bracket, and can drill the sides for your signals too. I relocated my plate to the swingarm, and plugged my signal holes after going to barends. .02, TK | ||

Why dont you go to your dealship aand buy a new tail section for around $150 and do it your self? It is really an easy mod to pull off. If you would like PM me and I will walk you through the whole process. | ||

Well, I was thinking I wanted to go with one of the nicer aftermarket pieces, but I guess I'll just have to cut up the stock one myself. I would like something a little more stylish than that, but it'll have to wait. Scoobytwo - I appreciate the offer to walk me through it. I think I have a handle on it, but I'll let you know if I run into any stumbling blocks. If it's as straight forward as it looks, it should be no problem. | ||

this was just a chop, like everyone else...except I painted the cut area black to improve the lines back there...then I put the seat cap from american sportbike on there.   | ||

just check the XB rear fender section http://www.r-r-customizing.de/seiten/shop_eng/index.html not cheap, but quality stuff. perfect color match, fits like a glove, led taillight and variable turn signals (i got rid of the eggs) available. but... it's a matter of taste (and finance)  | ||

Yep, that's the one I want Sailfish. I think I'll cut mine up for now and then replace it later with one like yours. I've got a few other things I would rather spend the money on at this stage. | ||

Check out the sponsor section. Special Ops has a professionally cut tail. American Sportbike has some CF tail units I think. My Favorite is the tails from HillBilly-Motors. |
