this happened as soon as i crossed usa border from canada & hit the 100 deg air of idaho .. fortunately i was riding to california - laguna seca - via nevada, so it was *bound* to get easier .. hahaha ...

i was riding at around 110 mph (170-180 kmh_ most of the time.

even in cali on short - tho very hot - commutes to & from motogp, right side of frame almost melted my inner thigh flesh off .. engine light was on 50% of time on my 5800+ km 11 day trip ..

i HAD to grin & bare it, as its a canadian bike & i had no chance to get it in & decided i hated the facker enough to see if i could melt the engine & save me all my buell woes.

no such luck .. even up the west coast thru cali/oregon/WA .. it was running hot w/ light on & zero fan .. still no fan ..

towards end of trip, when turning on bike, fuel pump noise continues unabated .. no quick whine .. just like me, it just keeps on whining endlessly! ;P

i am getting it in for major service, as the trip put it 2000+ kms past 10,000mile service.

i am assuming this is BAD & NOT normal?!

why i didn't care if i melted it? as i told diablobrian once, i am gonna make it a thunder-class racer anyway, so its getting new jugs/heads/pistons/yadda ...

overal tho .. i came away impressed that this bike i have crashed 3 times in 1 year & riding the bejesus out of, STILL kicks ass & lives on .. man i have a story w/ my buell ..

it took 10-13 hr days at 140-200kmh average speeds w/ only fuel stops ..

also, in first few months of ownership, i got 135kms + 14kmhs reserve per fill .. on this trip w/ open airbox/racekit/loose engine, i once pushed it to 220kms before i lost my nerve & filled it anyway .. super impressed by that!

paul.

Hey Paul,
Although the Ulysses are having fan issues (be prepared, they are on back order) this is the first time I've heard of it on
a firebolt, or even a lightning. The Buells are tougher than a lot of people give them credit for. In stock form they'll
take some serious abuse. If you do break them the parts are far cheaper than most comparable parts from the japanese makers.

For instance, take a look at what No_Rice does to his poor bike....and all it's done is throw a few (5) belts! (sorry Tim ;))

If you go through and beef them up with the new main bearing and oil pump drive gear they'll take even more punishment.

I'm glad your trip to the USGP went well though, even if we, as Yanks, talk funny : ) So, when will we see pics?

My fan also took a whopping Flit and have been waiting over 3 weeks for the thing which is supposed to be here in another 2. Well when my parts guy checked it did show back order. When I just called HD/BUELL customers service the part is now appearing from some crevice un-mentioned and will be next day air freighted. My parts guy is pissed that the manufacture threw him under the bus. Oh yeah. Customers service says "What back order?" What a trip! Just hang in there guys. We get the same service that HD gives. Just was hoping that Buell himself was a little above this. His bikes are.

My fan crapped out too.
Didn't actually die but the bearing went n it sounded like rocks in there when it kicked on.
Replaced through DaveS I believe.
