Exactly what's the difference between the '06 and the new '07 pump? In '06 it looks like they changed one part to bronze. Any news on what they did in '07?

It has a larger scavenging gear.

Wow! Cool scan and very informative. Man, that scavenging gerotor is HUGE compared to the original. I'll bet it's got 50% more capacity.

Which raises the question, was there anything about the XB's that indicated the scavenging pump capacity was insufficient? It'd be really interesting to know what lead to the change.

On a related subject, I'm really interested to see what the XBRR oil pump setup looks like. Whatever it is, it doesn't hang below the cam gear case like the previous pumps do.

I bet once they put mechanical pen to paper they figured out the new bronze gear they changed in late '05/06 can handle more load...which now means the late 05/06's are over designed...which is nice as well.

Brian,

You may be right, in which case I feel even better that I upgraded my 2000 S3 to the bronze gear.

I'd suppose that keeping the sump "dryer" reduces windage which lets the engine make more horsepower and probably reduces oil consumption.

I thought that these motors are well known to be under-scavenged. This seems like a nice thing. I do wonder just how much more they suck outta the crankcase.
