Can this be done? I'd like to get a right side scoop, but I'm not paying $250 just to make it match the cheap plastic one. Looking into painting the stock plastic piece Sunset Orange to match the body pieces (then getting a right side to match). If this is a possibility, is there anything special I should know before diving in? Thanks! ~SM | ||

Swordsman, the original airscoop can be painted very well. Make sure that plastic primer is used before the color coat will be applied. The cheap plastic one, as you are referring: the original airscoop is quite an expensive part, for being just a scoop. You can see it when a Buell crashes on the left side. Just scratches, nothing else. About fitting both scoops: it's not about color or texture, it's the shape of several airscoops what makes the difference and the build up, if it has the same front ring part or not. And that's the question. | ||

Just scratches, nothing else. I dunno, Rubbermaid products are pretty durable as well, but I wouldn't consider them high quality materials. I'm looking at the fiberglass right side scoop offered by American Sportbike. I think the shape matches as well as possible, considering the stock headers. I was originally looking at Trojan's matching low profile scoops (the horizontal ones, not the square), but to get both scoops, have them painted and shipped, it'll be approx. $330 US. That's alotta dough for scoops, and I actually like the original shape better.
