Why is the XB9 called the XB9 and not the XB10? XB10 would be nice just for bragging rights. After all, rounded up it is a 1000cc engine. Why are they rounding downward? Insurance issues should be minimal if it were called the 10R because the displacement is actually 984cc. The XB12 is properly tagged. What gives? |

I don't brag, but I agree with you. XB10 would be more appropriate given its actual displacement. I can't figure it out either. |

Probably so the name doesn't look like all the literbikes. |

What mattwhite said. I bet the "little" buell would get huge grief from anyone that owns a literbike let alone anything else. It avoids comparisons of it to anything with 10 in the name. Thats my guess anyways. |

Why would anyone on a 9R need to avoid comparison? |

tailspinning, to answer your question about insurance rates if the bike was over 1000cc it would cost more to ensure. It wouldn't hurt anything for the bike to read on the sticker that it was a 1000 cc bike if the engine was actually smaller. Anything under 1000 gets some relief. What do you guys say when people ask you what size your bike is for general motorcycle conversation? Everyone says either I've got a 1000, or a 1200 etc... |

Actually I have never said I have a liter bike. I have always told people exactly what it is a 984cc. People are usually very suprised such a "little" bike even has a 984cc let alone when I tell them they make a 1203cc. |

Most people think my bike is a 500 0r 600 until I tell them it's a 1250. |
