You won't believe this..left home at 4.00am this morning to take my '06 XB12R for new tires..this was pre-arranged, since they are over 100 miles away, and I wanted to be early so they could start at 8.00
I ride about 80 miles on the freeway and need to change lanes..I accelerate but nothing happens..engine just revs up..thought it had jumped out of gear, but no difference..so I thought the belt had broke..meanwhile its still dark and I'm trying to coast over 5 lanes of traffic !
The belt is fine, but I have no drive..the clutch works and the gears engage but there is no drive. So something has come loose inside which disabled the drive.
So now I am stranded on the freeway..managed to get hold of a tow truck service thru' Honda Riders Club, but because I wasn't riding a Honda, I would have to pay for the service. They wanted $800 to take my bike home, approx 85 miles !! I asked the guy if he was joking.."nope, I'm not Joking" eventually I got him down to $450..still Hwy robbery in my estimation.
So now I have to trailer the bike back to the Buell dealer and get them to f*cking fix it, with only 4700 miles on the clock.
I was hoping I was not going to be a part of the disgrunteled owners, but its turning out that way. The first warranty work was an oil leak.
So whats wrong with the clutch ?

Mike

Mike,

Don't you get free membership in BRAG for the first year? That would have gotten you a free (or nearly free) tow.

Any symptoms before it quit? It could be a broken primary chain, but I think you'd have heard that (and it would NOT have sounded good).

Can't tell you what's wrong with the bike, but I can tell you what's wrong with your towing service.

But rather than bore you with those details, I'll point you to what I consider to be the ultimate resource for vehicle towing of all kinds. Better than AAA and equal to or better than any "roadside assistance" coverage you get from an insurance company.

Click HERE for peace of mind without a giant hole in your wallet.

You might be able to seek reimbursement through BRAG if you are a member.

I have towing/roadside assistance on my insurance policy. If you are an AMA member, you can also get towing coverage for $25/yr.

Sorry to hear about your break down.

Ouch! I would have called in a favor from a buddy with a truck, or trailer before I shelled out $450 for a tow.

I don't use AAA anymore because I once called for a tow for my RV. On my card it even says "motorcycle and RV"
The outift on the phone told me first that I didn't have RV coveage...WRONG...and then told me that they weren't the same
"club" that I'd joined because I was in a different region.
I had them re-affirm thet they were AAA. They said yes, I said that's funny, that's what it says on my card. and I
got YOU on the phone by calling the number on that card. Then they tried to tell me that they worked by regions.
I HAD to ask...Why would you get RV coverage if you planned to stay at home? I paid extra for that!

I ended up paying out of my pocket and fighting them for months before they finally paid. I even had
to re-up my membership during the fight because they tried to play the "your membership has expired so we
are no longer liable game with me. Luckily there is a "grace period".

AVOID AAA.

I have never needed to use the BRAG towing,or the AMA towing, but the peace of mind is nice.

Not to mention the number of family members with trucks, and my own trailer that I can get to help me.

Or even the Friday night Buell relay team and Steve_Mackay's Brother at o-dark thirty!

That sucks! Don't forget about your fellow Buellers as well. Check the Rider Assistance Network (RAN) on the main page to see if there's anyone near you. If there isn't, tag, you're it! Sign up!

I get free towing service included with my insurance on the S3T. The other bikes are $8/yr.

It's a small price to pay for a little piece of mind!

The BRAG towing benefit is only $100 for the standard membership, so that will get you maybe 10 miles...

The odds of breaking down within a $100 tow of a Buell dealer are pretty slim considering how few there are.

Did this tow truck driver sound Romainian?

Did he pitch his sister as the best psychic ever?

Did he offer to take yoru first born in lieu of cash?

Did he say he used to be a cabbie in the Bronx?

Sorry you got hit so hard. I would have had the driver stop by the bar, bought him a few drinks and rolled him into the bathroom unconcious and driven home in his truck.

Progressive is really good about towing my bike..

When I broke down in Gulfport they towed me to the nearest Buell dealership with factory trained mechanics..

Towed me about 100 miles to Pensacola....
