Hello Everyone, I just got new tires last week and my dealer put the front tire on wrong. I talked about that in here the other day. I'm going down there to get that taken care of tomorrow. My problem is that when I had the tires put on they put a small scratch in thr front caliper. It's only about 6-7mm long. No biggie. As I was looking at the bike tonight I found 2 large scratches on the rear pulley. They were parallel to each other. I also found a chipped area on the edge of the rim from mounting the tire it looks like. The bike has been put away all week and doesn't appear disturbed. Could the pulley have been damaged when the tire was put on? Also, I really don't know how proceed. I don't know that damages occured at the dealer. What do I do? Thanks, Gregg | ||

If you dont know for sure, then dont point fingers. But if you do think they did it speak up. Next time do a good once over on your machine before and especially after a dealer stay. Good luck | ||

Pulley meaning belt tensioner??? If so, it is possible. That has to be removed to remove the belt to remove the rear tire. I second Cmm213 comment. Look over it real good before you leave the dealer. After that its your word against theirs. They are suppose to write down any scratches/dings before they take it in on the work order. Next time remove the rims/wheels yourself. Not only will it same you some money....it will give them less things to f up. | ||

Yeah I don't want to point fingers. I'm pretty sure it happened there but what can I do now? I'm kind of fired up about it and past experience is playing a factor too. It's just frustrating because I just bought the bike. The bike was flawless before it went there and now it's tarnished.Am I expecting too much to have my bike returned without a single scratch, especially after the first tire change? It's not that hard to scratch a rim during a wheel change, is it ? If it was them, should I be pissed? I am by no means going to accuse anyone. I'll have to look at the bike a little more closely next time. If I had a chromed out Harley, I know I'd be mad. Thanks for the input and allowing me to vent. Gregg | ||

It wasn't the belt tensioner. It was the rear sprocket. Gregg | ||

Yes, the rear sprocket could have been damaged by the tire machine (if they put it on that way instead of rotor down) or when installing the wheel in the swingarm. The best thing to do is to check your bike over well before paying for the work. Most work orders have a release on them that you sign when you pay. | ||

Bikes and cars get dings and scratches on them...They are not museum pieces. Don't look at your bike as "hey, look what I have, and it is flawless"...Look at it as, "this thing is awesome and I'll get some scratches and stuff on it using it as intended". I know the issue is that you think the dealer did it, but by your description of the scratches you sound like your going a bit over board.... | ||

When my bike gets dropped off at a shop I make a big production of taking digital photos of everything. I have only dropped it off at a shop once and all the photos I was taking made the dealer "uneasy". I simply explained that I was trying to protect them from me being upset about scratches that I did not notice. I bet they were CAREFUL with my bike! | ||

Thanks for the advice. I went to the dealer on Saturday to get my tire re mounted. They were pretty decent and offered to touch up the areas that had been scratched. I did not accuse them of doing damage, I just pointed it out. I talked to the owner and he explained that it's pretty easy to scratch those buell wheels when mounting tires. I understand that. I think I may have over reacted a bit when I first noticed the scratches. Although my dealer has not done anything majorly wrong to me, I think that a bunch of little things have taken away any confidence that I had in them. While I was at the shop on Saturday, I watched them work and I now think that they do a decent job. The main problem that I think they have is that they are just too busy. Gregg |
