I have an XB9SL I found a blue coil shock cheap. Will this be worth the trouble?

your bike will no longer be an SL, it will just be an S...so if you're tall enough then go for it, if you're short...don't... It will not change the performance much, in my opinion

not really, it will be a SL with a S rear shock.
Do not change just the rear shock!

I wouldn't run a standard (blue) shock with the low forks up front.

I'd swap both ends or leave it alone.

But that's just me. I have no real mechanical know how to back myself. It's just what my gut tells me.

Edit: Daves beat me to the reply.
I guess my gut is pretty smart (sometimes): )

You are right Metal,
Changing just the rear shock to a taller one will upset the ride height and therefore the handling of the bike.
It will have the same effect as raising the fork tubes in the triple clamps which has proven to provide VERY SCARY handling.

if you were to install the regular rear shock only it would:

1)decrease the rake of your forks making steering too quick

2)decrease the amount of trail in the front wheel, making the steering less stable.

It would be, in a word....Dangerous.
