i've tried selling my black 05 xb12R w/2200 miles in mint condition three times on ebay already, it's been in the classifieds for two months without any interest from others, Kelly Blue book retail is right where i'm priced ($7400)bike has low miles, it's mint, it has extras, nothing wrong with it, STILL...no interest.

I guess american built does suck afterall as far as depreciation goes. As an example, an 05 RC51 Honda will sell for $8500-9000 all day long and i see them selling like hot bread on Ebay.

Weird.

my location is south FL, year round riding weather, if anything there should be lots of buyers.

haven't tried anything other than Ebay.

i'll have to start going to all the bike meets and do the ol' For Sale sign thing.

I've had pretty much every sport bike worth owning, every fast cruiser, dirt bikes, etc. Never did i have such bad luck selling a bike.

Yeah, that's what I meant.
Most Buell riders don't live in the flat lands, or so far south.
Personally I wouldn't buy a vehicle off e-bay unless it was in my area, and I could test ride it first.

Good idea, blame it on American made.

Ebay sucks for trying to sell a Buell from what I've heard! Cycle trader or you local classifieds should do well... But I'd try www.craigslist.org first before anything!

With all due respect i think the price is alittle high. Its also 2 years old and i`ve seen 05`s in similiar condition sell for $6200-6500.

What a real shock go the dealer and ask what they`ll give you for trade-in value!

I have sold a lot of cars and motorcycles in my life. I've paid for a lot of Cycle Trader and Auto Trader ads, online listings, etc etc etc.

NOTHING has sold more of my vehicles FASTER and with LESS HAGGLING than....

The Recycler! Those free little 3-line text ads have sold almost every vehicle I've ever gotten rid of. I don't even bother with other publications any more. Just my experience, take it for what it's worth. You can't beat the price.

Just as an example, I sold my Ducati for $11,500 in just 3 days from when the ad was posted in the Recycler. Cash in hand.

Yep,just a smaller market means less chance of selling. On the other side, usually means you can buy a used on pretty cheap. My personal experience is that Ebay is not a good place to sell bikes, cycletrader has been much better for me. To much of a buyers market on Ebay it seems.

I've been on Ebay looking at Buells for the past 4 months, not once have i seen an 05 with 2200 miles in this condition sell anywhere less than $7000, as i mentioned, i've had it listed 3 times, i always look to see who's selling what, the 04's are bringing in the low-mid $6000 range, not the '05s. Kelly Blue Book shows $7490 for a retail price, the local Buell dealer wants $9000 for an 05 xb12, i guess Ebay is more of a wholesale place to buy because noone offers anywhere near retail.

I'll have to try locally, just listed it on craigslist, thanks to those who suggested it.

What i meant to say was, i've sold jap bikes before on ebay with pretty damn good success, got all the money for them, Buells don't seem to fit in that selling category. Either the people who buy them are broke or they attract low ballers, whatever the case, they don't sell for retail on Ebay whereas jap bikes DO.}

The Buells do seem to sell low on ebay. But I don't think you can get KBB-quoted retail out of any vehicle selling from classifieds, ebay or otherwise. At least for cars, KBB's definition of "Retail" means a dealer is selling the vehicle and it has been reconditioned to be cosmetically and mechanically excellent. It is also meant to be a starting point for negotiations. As a private seller, I'd expect to get somewhere between retail and wholesale out of a used vehicle in very good or excellent condition. The KBB trade-in on a 2005 XB12R is only $5115.

Selling on ebay is frustrating. I remain convinced that many of the sellers have friends run the bids up.

Good luck,
Bill

I hate to tell you, but your Buell is not the latest and greatest. Buell's are a buyers' market. So you will sell it when the right person comes along and offers you a price you both can live with.

Craigslist is great in certain areas. In the SF Bay Area it can't be beat... doesn't seem to get used as much in LA though. It is definitely worth a try though.

I won't go near e-bay anymore; a waste in my opinion. It is all stores selling crap for too much now, and the risk of fraud is too high. So I would never have seen the e-bay ad when shopping for a bike. And Kelley doesn't ever seem to reflect reality from what I've seen (maybe in certain cities?).

I've bought and sold about 8 bikes (two Buells)and cars on e-bay and got pretty much what I thought I should get. Most were bought or sold unseen and shipped. No problems here....yet

Buell has a bad reputation among the uninformed. Once you learn about them it's like being enlightened.

The problem with e-bay is the fact that the buyer has to factor in the shipping costs. Whenever I look at a bike for sale on e-bay, I will only look into one that is close enough to go get it. If some one was to bid your reserve price and then pay to ship it, that is going to add to the total cost of the bike. So if they were to pay that much, they might as well go to a dealer and buy a used bike from them.

I picked up my '03 XB9S off of e-bay. It had 4400 miles and a whole bunch of extras w/lots of carbon fiber pieces for $4600. The bike was only a short ferry ride across the Long Island sound to pick it up. That was a good deal. Now if I had to pay 3to $400 to ship it to me. And worry about damage and stuff like that, it wouldn't have been such a deal.
As a seller on e-bay, it's only worth it if you want to get rid of something cheap and fast.

Honestly, I think the factory is partly to blame for the poor resale value of these bikes. There is a limited demand for the bikes, the factory builds too many, and that depresses values. It is simple supply and demand. When there are two year old bikes sitting in showrooms for $2000 under list, is it any wonder the used vales are poor?

Right Garp, the factory has flooded the market, thus depressing resale price..... 'Kay guys I gotta run catch my black helicopter now, mensa meeting starts in 20 minutes.

It is simple supply and demand, and if you can't grasp that, then you might want to skip the mensa meeting.

Too many bikes + limited demand = Lower prices.

Now, let me drink a little more of the special Buell Kool-Aid, (Only $15.00 a quart at your local dealer) and then I'm sure I'll be able to adopt the group think mentality that is needed here.

Robino,

I've looked at your bike on Ebay, and I even wrote to you, but you never answered me. I would have bought it if you were near (NJ), but Florida is too far, specially when you factor in the distance. I could fly in and ride it back, but that would add at least another $600 when you include plane ticket, days off from work, mileage, etc, (and a sore bum )

Shipping it to NJ would also be expensive, and purchasing something without looking it over is simply impossible. I feel bad for you, but I hope the examples others gave you will help you to sell it quickly.

small group of people, I mean, the young kids are into the jap replica race bikes, more mature people are into the cruisers and Harleys. I cant believe what these people are selling used SPORTSTERS for around here! More than what you can buy a new one for!!!

I flew to austin Texas to buy my bike and drove it back 1200 miles..

I got a pretty good deal... On top of it the seller still came out better than trading it in...

dealer wanted to give him 4900 for a 05 XB9SX with 4k,Race ecm,exhaust and K&N in January 06

Try selling a harley and you'll really be frustrated...

If you look on ebay or other classifieds you`ll see people asking outragous amounts for their Buell. A few weeks ago a guy was selling a 03XB9 with 6000 miles and asking $8500. Crazy!

Wholesale on your bike is only about $5200 so $7400 seems way high. Try listing it for $6000 and you might get some action. Or you could just keep it and enjoy it!

goodluck
