I really like the look of the fully faired XBs.
eg.

Where does one obtain such a fairing? Does it attach to the existing 1/2 fairing or is it a full replacement item?

I recognize that bike! I hate that guy!;)

there are 2 major player in the full fairing game.
The uppers and lowers aren't interchangable between them.

Shakskinz is the more common brand, and they are sold by Hal's and DaveS said he could get them too.

Sebimoto is the other brand. You can get it from yoyodyne, or from racingmotorcycles.com.

There is an outfit called godfather racing that is selling a copy of the sharkskinz bodies.
They are copied directly from the sharkskinz fairings and they are of poor quality.

Our race team has worked with both and the sebimoto is the higher quality fairing. They make carbon fiber,
carbon-kevlar, and fiberglass fairings. even the fiberglass fairings have kevlar reinforcements at weak
points like the "ears", corners, and fastener holes. good stuff! You will, however need to cut
headlight holes because they do not make a street fairing. This isn't bad, you'll have to cut away some
anyway for your kickstand, exhaust outlet, and holes to drill for mounts.

The sharkskinz bodies are the next tier down in my opinion, but they do have the advantage of offering
a "street" fairing. you'll once again need to modify it some for street use, but that's how it goes.

You'll also need to mount the fairings and add some stability to it or it'll shake itself apart at speed.
I recommend the stainless steel kits offered by Halspa.com, or racingmotorcycles.com. They
have the dzus fasteners and straps cut and ready to go. It is a big help.

You'll need at least one friend, preferably one thats mounted race fairings before to help
hold, mark, cut and drill. You need to trust them, because you really want to measure twice, cut once.

The fairings come either gel coated, or primed and will need to be painted to be presentable.

I'll be happy to help anyone trying this as much as I can and will provide pics too. Just PM me.

how is it they get away with that?
or is it just a loosing proposition for sharkskinz to go after them...?

I don't know why sharkskinz has allowed it, but according to the godfather reps at
Daytona they were making their molds directly off of the sharkskinz pieces.

but you know how that goes, every time you make a copy you lose resolution.

We are a Buell dealer and race team out here on the west coast and tried to get the Sharkskinz direct and were told they are a Hal's only part. So what's up with DaveS being able to get them? ... Terry

I do encourage using our sponsors, but buying the sharkskinz from trojan and
having them shipped back to the US would drive the price WAY up. Matt agreed
with that assessment when it came up before. If you're in the UK or europe it
would be a good thing though.

The upper and lower come in a pretty large box. Nearly the size of a washing machine,
or stove. freight for large fragile items is expensive, and you have to HOPE it does
not get crushed in transit.

I agree with Diablo. We buy these in direct from Hal's for sale in Europe. If you arein the US then go direct to them for the Sharkskinz bodywork : )

I will check next week as the guy I need to talk to, I am sure is in Laguna today.

I am pretty sure, a year or so ago I was told that I could get them.
The customer that wanted them at that time ended up not buying them at all and I haven't had a request for them since.

If they wouldn't sell them to Terry they probably won't sell them to me either.
Hal's may have an agreement with Sharkskins to only sell to them?

Hi Dave,
yes that is the case on the Sharkskinz bodywork.
