The least entertaining route between two points is a straight line.

I love the whole air cooled, rumble of the HD based Buell motor.

Nothing like it for just plain riding where you don't feel the need to hammer to bike just to feel something is going on down below.

This is why I bitch about the fan and fuel pump noise on the XBs. NOTHING should compete with the lump lump sound of that motor.

I like my carburated, push rodded (is that a word?), clacking sportster motor. I'll take the rumble of a v-twin over the whine of an I4 anyday!!

Edited to add; Wait a minute... Oh chit... I am on the XB Board. I've got one of those old school 1 big headlight models.... LOL

mine doesn't even have a speedo, does that count?? I still love the way Ducati's sound, but it still isn't near as good looking as my tuber, or even many XB's. Harley thought they had a hit with the v-rod, more power, better handling? Most still don't like them, maybe there's something to that rumble/shake that people like and don't want to give up...

" I don't mind SOME vibration, but idling in traffic actually gives me a headache from the shaking!"

Same here. I like the engine just fine, but the shaking at idle has got to go. I have to stand up at stops just to be able to read street signs and keep from getting a headache.

Let's be honest, air-cooled V-twins will not last forever. Even HD sees the writing on the wall down the road, hence the V-Rod program. In fact, I'm going to say that the V-Rod is HD's future eventually. Sure, there might always be room for an air-cooled V-Twin but as emission restrictions get tighter and the competition beefs up the power, HD and Buell will have to reconcile.

No...let me explain...it's not just in the bars. The entire bike shakes violently at idle. The turn signals bounce up and down, the anything touching the bike is going to get shaken to a bloody pulp until the engine reaches about 2500-3000 rpm or so, then it smooths out nicely.

Funny thing is, I rode Daves' Firebolt up in Appleton and it was smooth as a baby's bottom at idle. Go figure??

Anyone see the Bimota DB5 on eBay? 38,000 bucks and only 92 HP. I wonder if the buyer will buy it only to want water cooling and more HP. Beautiful bike though.

What's the deal? Do the 12's shake worse than the 9's? What do you have your idle set at?
