Since there seems to be some interest, here are some pics of an R to S tail swap. So far, I have only taken the R off and am sending it to the Badwebber I am swapping with. Once I receive the S tail, I will post the reassembly. I know most people are going S to R, but these may be helpful none the less.

Here is the tail still on the bike.

First I took off the seat.

Then I removed the three bolts on the top and two on the bottom and took off the rear fairing.

Remove the locking mechanism and keep it for your new tail

Pull the rear brake line from bottom leaving it attached to the master cylinder. You may want to drain it too.

The master cylinder is in a different location on the S and R, so leave it in place and swap it with the rest of the tail.

I left the wiring harness from the connecter back. Not sure if I should have, but I think the wiring is a different length on the S and I’m sure it’s routed differently.

Remove the four bolts holding the under fairing (not sure what it’s really called). Two are the bolts that holds the license plate bracket, and the other two are near the rear shock.

I left the ground wire, because again, I’m not sure how much different it is on the S.

Remove the four bolts that hold the tail frame onto the bike’s frame.

Here is the bike with no tail.

It will probably be a couple of weeks until I get the S tail so that’s all I have for now.

you are going to need that piece of wiring harness. the S is just hard wired to the tail light.

You know it Tim. I was even thinking about painting it yellow.

Thanks for the heads up Lonexb.
Hey Darryl, could you send the harness back to me with the S tail?

Don't worry Rob, I'll make sure the parts he doesn't use get sent back, since you will probably need them.
