First post.

Made a deposit on a 2007 XB12Scg. Wanting Crossroads 0-deg bars and a Drummer SS. Should I do the work myself? Would having the dealer do it avoid warranty issues? Any advice for someone heading out the door with a new XB12?

Thanks

Just curious if you don't mind.
I am also looking at an 07 XB12(s) and was wondering what the stock bike cost out the door. Can a 12 be had out the door (tax/tags, etc) for MSRP ?

In Northern California the dealers seem get about $1100 over MSRP and are not interested in dealing.

OOOH..I'm so excited for you JR...you're gonna love that bike..I have the 05 model and I love the new colors on the 07's! Congrats..

I'd say do the bars yourself, as far as the exhaust, some dealers will void your warranty with installation of a non-OEM exhaust...so again, doing it yourself might be a better idea.. keep your stock can around JUST IN CASE something related comes up and you have to bring it in, just to cover your butt... OR, you could just ask your service department what their policy is.

There shouldn't be any warranty issues, but that is up to the individual dealer to a large extent. I would check with them first, especially if you expect them to be the ones that honor your warranty.

Installing the muffler is fairly easy except for getting the rear muffler straps back on. It is helpful to have another person around to push them towards you.

Installing the bars can be a bit fiddly, I would check the knowledge vault for others with direct experience with the 0º bars.

In general installing different bars is usually harder than it looks if only because so many things have to fit properly, and it is always the last one that seems to be a problem. Routing the clutch cable tends to be problematic at times.

BEWARE!!
Dealer, where I bought my XB9S, (Cerini HD) installed the race kit before I bought the bike. Sadly, I find the extended warranty I bought from them will not cover the race kit or any engine problems they deem might be related.

I went to Simi HD because the Norcal dealers all wanted at least 1100 over MSRP. I heard at the time, about 1 1/2 months ago, that Glendale was also a good dealer to buy from in CA. There was a thread here from back then about where to buy in CA.

Simi Valley has a HD ??
I was raised in Simi, graduated and left in 1990. It must have changed a lot in the last 16 years. Wow, I am getting old!

MikeMax, if you ever swing by 3131 Paige Ave with a digital camera, hook me up with a pic, it was my childhood home.

Welcome to badweb,

I'd say do the install yourself, but I also recommend getting the race ECM, or getting your ecm re-mapped with direct-link.
You can "get away with" just the exhaust on the stock ecm, but I'd get the air filter too and do the ECM. unless all you are
after is noise. If you do get the "race" ecm you will need to have the dealer do a TPS reset before you can run with it.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your Buell! I know I enjoy mine

Based on my experience, set the suspension and check the tire pressure before you ride off, because the dealer won't!

Thanks for the advice!

When in the dealership a couple of months back, then looking at a 2006 XB12Scg, we discussed installing the race kit. They were also pitching the extended service plan fairly hard. I’ll have to see if they will honor the full warranty, if they do the work. In any event I’m leaning toward just installing a Drummer.

In the near term, the sound of the Drummer and look of the removed chin fairing are more important than performance gains. I’m not big on the idea of voiding the engine warranty on a new bike and the extended warranty plan does seem to have some nice features. Swapping pipes as needed should be fairly straight forward.

We’ll see, Vallejo HD/Buell has, or works with, a speed shop. I have some details to work though and I'll be talking to the service department.

Thanks for the advice!
