The XB9SL is lower. Identified by a Yellow rear shock. The seat is also lower.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the SL(the "Low") just has a lower seat (28.5" seat height).

Are we actually hijacking this guys thread since his question got answered? Energy Drinks, I do not like them, Sam I am, I do not like energy drinks...

Energy drinks... the new age coffee

I also don't have a coffee maker here, so...

Would you like them with a fox? Would you like them in a box?

I'm not sure if we're hijacking... maybe piggy backing, if that's a term for it

Front struts are lowered and rear spring is yellow and shorter. The seat is also thinner.

the seat is pretty painful since the lowering was essentially removing pad. I'd get a gel implant on the seat so you can withstand a ride longer than 45 minutes.

If this is the case, would a low seat on a city x drop the seat height a lot? I really want to buy a city x, but I'm up on my tip toes. I'm 5'5", my options are very limited if I want to flat foot it. I'm hoping the low seat will give me the chance to come close to flat footing. Anybody have experince with this?

The only height difference from a CityX and a regular lightning is the seat.
You can get a regular seat from a lightning any year '03 and newer and have it be lower.

Go sit on either a XB9S or XB12S and see how it fits you.
If that's not low enough, the Low seat will bring it down a bit more.

I've got a City X with a low seat and it works just fine.

I wouldnt recommend going with the low seat unless you absolutely have to.
It has far less padding than the other seats available.

I would first try a regular Lightning. If you feel comfortable at that height I would get the Select seat (check Buell website for info on it), it has gel inserts and is quite comfy.

If the regular seat is still too tall, then try the low seat. I see the low seat as a last resort.

You're concentrating on the wrong thing. Lose your dependency on flatfooting, and you'll find the seat height ain't so bad. You're taller than I am...I've ridden both the regular Lightning as well as the Lightning Low, and I preferred the regular 9S even though I couldn't flatfoot it (that low seat, I don't like it...).

BTW, I've ridden the Uly, too--now that's a tall bike (well, actually it's the height and weight together that make it a bit tough for us short guys). I sure wouldn't worry too much about the CityX.

Kootenay, how comfortable do you feel not being able to flat foot. I'm ok with being on my toes, but with the regular city x seat I'm way up on my very tip toes. Of course, I can lean to the side and support with one leg at a time, but I'm not sure how comfortable I would be that way long term. I could live with it if I have to I guess, but I'm trying to find a happy medium.

The other option is to find a 9SL or a 12Scg & put a stock, StreetFighter or Select seat in place of the low seat. It'll be really close to the same height as a standard S with a low seat but will have a comfty seat instead. I can't remember if it's a smidgeon higher or lower but it's real close.
