Here's who is going to be using the "Highland" V-Twin motor.

http://www.roehrmotorcycles.com/default.php

Claiming 150hp, also curiously they say that the motor is made in the USA.

Looks like they should of hired a stylist. Not holding my breath, but more power to them. America needs more dreamers.

This is the motor Fischer should have used instead of the Hyosung. Apparently they are building 750, 950, and 1200cc versions of this V-Twin. God love him for trying, he's going to need it.

If Ducati sued them, they would be admitting that their bikes resemble that monstrosity.

That bike might be fugly, but the specs are very impressive. I'm with Glitch on the under engine fuel tank, I'd like to see that. I'll be interested to see if they make it into production. 54 inch wheelbase and a dry weight of 335 lbs, with 120-150 horsepower and 72 ft lbs of torque. I like the numbers.

Buell needs to build an engine like that! It's the 21st century, time for DOHC heads and water cooling on the XBs!

This motor looks extremely small. It would probably fit the XB chasis as is.

of course, said numbers are "subject to change without notice."

what does that even mean?

120-150 horsepower and 72 ft lbs of torque.
At the crank.

Under the engine fuel tank, is the only question I have with the bike. How does the bike feel when flicking hard left to hard right to hard left to hard right?
With the tank full, half full, half empty, almost empty?
I'm pretty sure they figured it out, or at least thought of it (after all I did), I wonder how they overcame the issue.
Or, did they hop on a test bike to find it was a non-issue.

Wonder if they'll make a naked version?

The engine specs on that page are said to be 120, yet on the main page they are claiming 150 to 180. I guess it depends on state of tune. Also Highland is said to be making 750, 950 and 1200 versions of this motor. Curiously Ducati seems to be campaigning the FIM for a limit increase on water cooled twins to 1200cc for competition.

Did anyone notice the fuel filler cap on the right side fairing. What is that going to do in case of a tip-over? I think I would have gone with a more conventional gas tank and utilized the underslung exhaust ala Buell. Also he should probably have Spondon or someone make some nice trellis style single-sided swingarms, because the on he has on there looks very cheesy. Also he really needs someone with a sense of style to design some bodywork for him. Because it will be almost impossible for him to justify that price tag with those looks.

How about a low side on track day?
It looks as though it would grind right off.

I wish Roehr luck. He is persuing a dream that is hard to achieve, and has been trying to produce motorcycles (in quantity) for over 10 years.

Walter Roehrich, Dan Fischer, Michael Czysz, and others are chasing a dream. I wish them all well and hope they suceed. I hope the market that they perceive existing is really there, the true American Superbike. This is not slamming Buell as they fill their niche very well, but obviously some feel that this hole in the market does exist.

Less grief than with a conventional location. The lower/closer to the COG the less effect any mass shifting will have. Like Buell's demo of the exhaust. I'd not worry about the fuel as much as the exhaust due to the double gain of moving the weight down and in with the exhaust.

That's just me.

The real question with the moving of the gas tank being what acts as a heat shield for the driver's crotch?

Anyone want to bet that by the time any one of them actually makes a real bike, Buell will have something that can blow it away?

The latest MotoCzysz is supposed to be at a tent at Laguna Seca. Do you think Erik can talk him into a race? Old man Erik on an XBRR vs. Michael C. on his latest prototype.

How much would you pay to see that?

I'm not a betting man, but I don't wish any of them failure. I would definately pay to see that, but I don't think the Harley legals would let that take place.

different different different... I think it is funny the only inline 4s come from japan. why not build an american made inline 4? this technology is so well proven in performance and reliability... look at like every economy car built since 1970... that being said... I loved my VTR1000 and I love my XB12R! It just seems like you have soooo much proven technology with "state of the art" gas tanks up high, oil in the engine 4 pistons in a row, water cooling, rear shocks with linkage.... maybe everyone feels they can not compete? the japanese have been copying everyone else forever and stepping it when they do... why cant we do that? build a ZX, CBR, GSXR, YZF copy BUT then put a pipe on it! tinited wind screen, fender eliminator kit, steering stabilizer, programmable ecm, nice cleanable high flow, air filter small signals, frame sliders etc. all the crap everyone dose as soon as they buy the bike.... you'd sell a ton of 'em.

Because other than racing a V twin is a better motor and been proven more than reliable. Other than on a track with long straights an average rider will go at least as fast on a v-twin as an inline 4.

Not all technology advances are really an advance. I just love the advanced tech of the various modern non-pushrod motors. Yup, I just love the 3,000 - 12,000 mile valve check/adjustments. I just love the nice long maintenance schedules for all the modern tech bikes.

Hmmm, for speed and handling levels I can't begin to use other than at track days I get more expensive and more frequent maint schedules. Yeah, that's a BIG advantage.

If either bike ends up racing,I think it would be way more impressive than th XBRR.I find it funny Buell is applauded for showing up at a race and not finishing just because they don't have the money of the big 4,but these guys get no respect from some of the Buell faithful. These guys are no different from Erik, except they haven't been bought out by H-D.

Pupo,

Being young is no excuse for ignorance. Buell's first bike was a GP bike, and instead of making parade laps, it went out and competed. And it was done out of a freakin 2 car garage with a guy paying himself about $5,000 per year. And no one knew a thing about it until it was already competing. So don't compare any of these rich boy wannabes with the real deal.

And if you don't think the Highland was looked at by Buell years ago and rejected because it wouldn't deliver, think again. Do you know the entire story of that poor engine? I do.

Paper claims are worth squat.
