Loud pipe = Force Exhaust

The force is notoriously hard to get properly tuned. I'd go for the D&D if it were me.

I've tried conjuring up a straight pipe, and being disappointed with the performance.

No backpressure = no torque...

Just get the D&D. The Force pipe really doesn't do much except make the bike too loud to ride regularly and enjoy. Plus the Force takes DL tuning or at least a PCIII to run hlafway decent. The D&D is LOUD too but it sounds really nice and doesn't give up too much power, and it works with the K&N and race ecm just fine.. Plus I think it looks pretty sweet too with the dual cans/outlets.

was at canadian superbike meet today .. thunder twins featured a few buells.

walking thru the pits, i was chking them VERY carefully out as the fairings were off.

there were 2 main bikes .. the winner (ridden by a 13 yo) & the 2nd bike.

winners bike had micron hydroformed full system .. on track it was loud & typical buell racebike sound (the ducati *paul smart* reps were WAY louder than all the other bikes & they featured megaphonic/tuned power adding titanium systems like honda rcv211 motogp bikes have. infact, they SOUNDED like ducati motogp bikes!

back to buell .. the other bike had a - what looked like to ME - tsukigi (?sp) full titanium sys, w/the front header being a totally different color to rear header - but both were like XBRR style tuned headers & were beautifully tig welded sections that stepped along to so-called muffler which was a big can w/ a 3" diameter outlet to left-side of bike only .. up & out.

the full micron is something to see up close, so many weird & gorgeous bends .. kinda ugly in an alien way.

bikes we fast & loud .. *BUT* both featured NO airbox .. front base-piece of airbox cover was totall removed, leaving a massive airgap that was sucked up by non-protected inlet funnel!

i was surpried at rather *ratty* airintake configuration, but they are RACE bikes & NOT daily drivers.

also, the *tsukigi* pipe was clearly more nascar than shopping cart! (if that makes any sense) .. personally, i am going to copy the setup & see how it goes & only use the loud pipes & open airbox for trackdays.

i think the guy will bare me out on this .. if u r gonna have an open or near open exhaust, u need to feed engine enough air to create a large enough explosion to support that scavaging .

so some kind of radically increased air intake & consequently fuelling changes will likely be required.

of note, the tsugiki fitted bike had points cover off, revealing an H-D plate w/ a module on it & many graduated measurements factory imprinted on the *points* plate.

obviously the fuelling had been somewhat played w/, as this bike also had strange plumbing & wiring under engine that other xb racebike didn't & it featured the carbonfibre leftside fairing-fed ram air intake, completely new welded in frame/tank sections & a higher & welded in non-stock filler cap neck & its air funnel was not the rubber soft one, but a machined black - either composite or alloy - one.

so much to notice ..both bikes had welded on frame sliders & *attack* triple clamps & bars.

one had stock folding footrests & pedals & other had custom, higher & more rearward, placed on custom bracketry, rearsets.

longwinded & somewhat off topic, but its the first time i cld get close to the real deal & be allowed to sniff around (staff were otherwise engaged in some leisure activity or other! ;))

ya van i had totaly forgotten about the tsukigi...i had a mag with a small write up about it but lost it or gave it away or somethin....i wonder how hard that would be to tune seems how the force and a couple of others sound like a pain....i cant trust a dealer to do it ...im still wondering why they sell buells but working on em seems to be so confusing....would be nice if some of ya'll lived closer i dont need a bike night i need a working on the bike night....if ur feelin generous i could use some new tires van : D...thanx for all the info.

The D&D doesn't give up too much power?!?!? From the looks of the shootout it gives up A LOT of power... Somewheres around 95/96 peak hp on a bike rated approx. 103 stock? That bites! It is just by a slight margin, the leader in the mid range rpms, but before and after it's got NO BALLS! The micron is very nice all accross the board and sounds really nice as the rpms climb, even American Sportbike recommends it the most. It's pretty loud, the D&D a bit louder but sucks butt on peak power...

Actually the bike is rated at 103 crank HP not at the tire. Lots of 12's have been dynoed and see less then 90 at the tire stock.

It sounds very crisp and nice, with one exception, when you shift gears with the clutch it has that rattle pop on the decel, but without the clutch..perfection. My sponsor did my bike. They dynoed it the way it sat, plus TPS and timing set, both ways and the Micron added 9.5 h.p. just by bolt on between the D&D and Micron

Termignoni.. anybody have any experience with one of those.

Vonsliek, the pipe you saw was more likely the Rhinehart or Beson pipe.

It is very popular in race circles and is a full Ti system. We run one on our race bike.

Too loud for street use, and too fragile. Any binding in the pipe and it breaks.

my vote is diablobrian and a few others need to start a traveling buell clinic....maybe a track day after....ok so corporate sponsors step up..god knows harley wont and buell....it sure would be dandy to have real experience and real street riders show us how to setup and work on our bikes then take them to task on a track..id pay for that.we can see different exhaust setups ,chain drives, airbox mods, all that good stuff...and ride the bikes see how it works..god knows i havent found a dealer that can tell me much more than gee we dont work on a lot of those and im not ridin to the midwest or the south just to go to a good dealer..traveling buell clinic.....ok ur ball ....

molly .. basiclly a very sound & wonderful idea .. of course if ever those guys cld get together & put on a day or weekend clinic (inc. racing suggestions & peculiarites to racing a buell .. etc) .. they wld be very, very busy by the sound of it ..

& u think it stinks in usa for buell knowledge .. try CANADA!!!

in a way its cool, because it becomes a pride of ownership thing where we are kinda forced to learn abt our bikes & scrounge for ideas & proven applications.

paul.

canada is bad too huh....well ya know i fu=igured theres so much support on the badweb...that a badweb tour would be dandy...sponsors get to show off their goods we learn stuff..crazier things have happend...if orange county tossers can still make money beatin a dead horse touring around showing off the newest clown themed bike....then all the sponsers here could support a clinic..how to get the most out your buell....i would of bought that along with the race kit they upsold me....we all seem to need help on one thing or another..we could do it ourselves if most of us could get together in one place...i hear daytona is nice : D....evwen a couple of times a year in select spots west coast east coast midwest....oh and northwest somewhere around the canadian border...someone call erick.

i'd ride/fly wherever .. i love the united states so far & been to cali (la .. venice bidiiatch!), arizona (fav) & orlando (pretty frekin nice too) ..

anyway ... point is .. i am down for a track weekend/clinic .. can't bee THAT hard ..

u rent a track for a few days (up here its CA$1400/day) & throw up some tents, everyone chips in & we all share costs PLUS some fee for the presenters/organizers ..

bring in a few race bikes to examine & trial for the experienced track addicts ..

when things are slow (ps2 has a great game caled tourist trophy w/ buell race & stock bikes in it & the ability to customise weight of bike/rider .. horsepower .. tire choice .. a few other things ..)

vendors shd come & have stalls .. someone WILL buy yr stuff .. we can prebook a cheap hotel (days inn are fine & give AMA discounts of upto 10%)

i think the brits & hillbilly wld come - cheap flights from europe & the euro is STRONG!

we are a small but obviously tenacious crowd of diverse backgrounds & motivations .. it cld really be a cool thing ..

only thing wld be insurance/indemnity waivers .. i'll sign.

hasta luego mis amigos.

The problem with the Force (not the "Ti-Force"... different pipe entirely) on the twelve is the header diameter and length. I hear with a map (PCIII or DL) it works well on a nine. The "muffler" portion will fit on the stock header of a twelve just fine though : ). I've heard good things about that configuration and plan on trying it myself. When i removed my force header and installed an '06 stock header on my '04 I literally threw the force header on the trash. I kept the "muffler" though. I'll be putting it back on and doing some testing pretty soon. I'm running a stock header and a Drummer ATM. Excellent combination if you ask me. It has a great sound. Not too loud (but loud) and a GREAT snarl when shifting.

I think the Force "muffler" with "baffle" on the stock header would make some power but I'll try it and see...

Don't waste your time with the Force header. Don't even take it if it's given to you.

Also... The force "muffler" (I use the quotes because it doesn't "muffle" a DAMN THING...) is VERY prone to breaking at the chin spoiler mounts. If you don't have a welder to add material in strategic places don't waste your time with the "muffler" either.

The force pipe is certainly the best sounding pipe I've ever heard on ANY bike though. I like 'em loud too : ).

Oh and.... When I had the full force setup on my twelve I had it mapped with a PCIII at a flat 14:1 fuel curve. It lost a lot of power below 3000, worked great from 3200 to 4800 and then lost again above 4800 to a Drummer on the Force header. I think that the Drummer on the stock header would have beaten it everywhere except maybe about 4000-4300. I'll try the stock header/Force "Muffler" combo soon.

XB12X+Micron+American Sport Bike Open Air Box+DL Tuning = 100 RWHP

Force pipe with no back pressure causes the 02 sensor to read the lean condition and then skewed the AFV rich. I have seen them come in with the AFV at 145%. ... Terry

Yeah... The VE curve created with the Force setup causes some havok. You can settle the AFV at 2700 and it'll be lean high and rich low or you can settle it at 4200 and it''l be "ok" in the upper range but very rich down low...

I'm hoping the using the muffler with baffle (not much of a baffle really) on the stock header will help to level out the VE curve somewhat compared to the full force setup... I doubt it will be good enough, but I'm going to try just to see what happens : ). Hopefully not a grenade : ).

It'll keep getting better all the way up till about 8K. They really take a little while to really break in. They do like to run hot : ).
