Had some free time yesterday and today, and after experiencing the beginnings of a tank slapper a few weeks back, decided to see what I could come up. Took me about 12 hours (mostly building the AL bracket for the fork) and cost about $40 (ebay : ) ), and I may have toasted my dremel, but it is about done. What do all you badwebers think? I took it out for a spin and it seems to work great. Guess I won't really know unless the wobblies never return.

I just love home fabrications.

The steering damper looks great.
I would very much like to see how you have attached the damper to the frame, and know what kind of damper you used.

I endorse the use of steering dampers, I am currently using an Ohlins side mount, with my own frame and fork mounts, but I like the athwartship installations better.

BTW, the fork mount you made is easily available from a number of sources, the harder problem with a Buell is normally the frame attachment detail, sure would like to see how you handled that.

Jon, Thanks for the heads up on the bracket, guess I should have looked a little harder. This was my first time really working with aluminum, so I guess it was a good learning experience if nothing else : )

The damper is off a 2006 GSXR 600. I mounted it to the front engine support bolt by drilling a hole dead center of the mounting bolt and tapping it. I didn't go any further than the meaty part of the bolt to keep it strong. The throw on the damper is near perfect in this mounting location and it doesn't hit or rub anything turning from lock to lock.

Another nice thing about the damper, is if I were picky about how it looked, I could switch the mount to the other side and flip it over (already tried and it works just the same).

All in the pursuit of safety!

Nate, yours looks good. I was thinking of that type mount, too.
Here's how I mounted mine.

Nate,
That looks nice. In addition to the side to side, be careful it doesn't hit the fender and front wheel on hard braking. You might want to put some duct tape on your fender to protect it and try a few hard stops. Definitely check the clearance thoroughly. In a race application, even with heavier springs I had problems with that type of mount hitting the front wheel and was forced to go to a side mount.
Just trying to be helpful. It looks good and I hope it works for you.

Thanks everybody! This is why I have a buell, can always count on a great ride, and great people helping you out when you need it!

Dylan, I hadn't thought of that, thanks for the heads up. I'll try the tape test tomorrow to be sure.

Rich, that mount looks clean, does it stick out to the side much? If I have fender issues, mind if I try that out?
