In a recent thread someone had pictures of their XB where the paint on the frame was either polished by the leather from their pants or the leather left marks on the paint. I currently wear a JR leather jacket with armor, full face helmet, gloves and Alpinestar racing boots. I would like to add the protection of leather pants but don't want to ruin the paint job on my frame in the process. I would appreciate it if other riders who wear leathers could tell me if it has caused wear on your paint as well. |

I have an XB9S and don't notice any marks on the frame, but if there were, I'd live with it. Skin is way more important to me. |

Kdan, I will definately be getting some sort of armor for my lower body. However if the paint is going to take a beating I may go with the under clothes type versus the leather pants. My reason for asking is I much prefer the pants but I also care about the appearance of my bike. Thanks for the input! |

Are you sure the leather scuffed it? or could it have been grip tape, I used to have that on mine... then I realized it wasn't doing me any good. |

Here is the link with pics of the "stains". http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/208999.html?1151519659 I think it is more of a polishing effect but then again I haven't seen it in real life so hard to say. Regardless I would like to avoid it on my silver framed Firebolt. Nuts, Yeah I did go through a bottle of Plexus in 6 days. It was the big bottle too. Whatca gonna do about it sucka? I bet you are one of those guys who have that truck bed liner sprayed all over their bikes with bugs stuck in the crevices . Probably went with that old ugly black too didn't ya? Call me tomorrow when you sober up. |

Interesting, obviously not grip tape. I have no idea, I've never seen anything like that before. Sorry I cannot help. |

It isn't the leather. Smooth leather won't leave marks. If these were new leathers, look to the wonderful world of dyes. Try lighter fluid on an out of the way spot. Dragging jeans, regular jeans, and mesh pants would be a tad harder on a finish than leather unless the leather has some serious road grit ground into it. |

I agree, could be dye stains, especially from new leather, and, say rain/high humidity... it comes off... Or, go with vanson, their dye doesnt run.. Chase |

I sweat like a race horse. Guess whose hands were stained red first day riding with the red leather gloves?? Vanson doesn't run? Hmmm, might give them a try if I decide on leather next time. |

there is a stick on plastic guard that you can get to protect your frame. http://www.ironmachine.com/index.php?cPath=31&sort=2a&filter_id=37 |

Diablo, Thanks for the link! I haven't seen those before and will most definately be snagging a set. Now that we have a solution let me pose another question. Has anyone tried the above product on their bikes? How is the durabilty? Is there any residue left after removal? Many thanks!! |

I have used stompgrip before which is a similar product, but I had to cut it to fit the airbox from a "universal" set. It worked well and didn't leave residue, and remained sticky even after being used on 3 different airbox covers. I've been considering an "Ice grip" gripster set, but haven't gotten around to it quite yet. |

Now that we have a solution let me pose another question. Is there any residue left after removal? The residue left after removing my leather pants is not an appropriate discussion for the Badweb, as this is a family oriented site.

Thanks for the compliment, I admit it, I'm a sick, sick man. I'm also a carrier, I spread the sickness wherever I go. It took me a while to find just the right bike. A lot of the mods were already done when I bought this bike. I love it! |

I wear leather pants every time I ride, and have never noticed any sort of staining. Even if they did, I'd still wear the pants; skin is more important than frame paint. It's not art, it's a bike. Gear up and ride... |
