I have an 06 CityX has been back to the dealer twice for the same fan/engine light problem. They replaced the fan and so far it seems ok. On the ride back from the dealer the bike ran fine but seemed a little rough and shifting seemed a little rough and different as well. If the fan was not working and it was ridden in very hot weather could there have been any damage done? Is there an over temp dummy light. Sorry for the stupid questions.

There is a over-heat skip spark mode with the check engine light. You would know if it had been too hot.

Does that mean it would misfire on purpose? That definitely did not happen. whew

It shuts down the rear cylinder when it senses an overheating condition, based on input from the cylinder head temp sensor.

...you have to work pretty hard to overheat an XB.

If your shifting feels different, you may want to cover the basics and check your tranny fluid level.

There's been a lot of discussion on the subject of transmission fluids in the Knowledge Vault regarding the use of particular synthetic lubricants in the primary due to the stator's location and GL-5's propensity for eroding copper.

I'll save you the reading and just tell you that while I've run pure synthetic in my primary since 1K miles (at 19K now) and have no regrets, I will be changing the TYPE of lube I use in it from M1 synth 75W90 gear oil to M1 synth 20W50 engine oil (which I also use in the crankcase) or possibly Red Line (Brucelee uses this, for one).

Virtually everyone agrees that using a good synthetic in the primary makes shifting smoother and easier.
