First of all, thanks go out to Ron Almeida (http://www.MetalTekRacing.com) and Marcello at Free Spirits (http://www.freespiritsrdc.com/) and Al over at American Sportbike (http://www.americansportbike.com/). I've been wanting to customize my bike a bit for some time, going beyond simply swapping my Blue XB9R plastic for Black XB12R plastic. Seeing Ron's 240 conversion convinced me that it was time to make the move. I actually called Ron up and we spoke for a bit and talked about all the things he's done to his bike and all the stuff he still has planned. In fact, I had purchased Ron's original black rear rim with the intention of picking up a front to create the blacked out look. Ultimately, I sold that and took my original rims and swing arm in for a full gloss powder coat instead of the factory semigloss. I hope to have that stuff back next week.

Anyway, Ron told me about all the work he did with his chain conversion. In the end, I ended up purchasing several parts from Ron, Marcello and Al.

Let me tell you, this stuff is all top quality. I was especially impressed with the chain conversion kit. There was some talk recently about how you can put together a do-it-yourself conversion with automotive parts, etc. After seeing this stuff, I am so glad I spent the extra money and went this route. The tensioner itself is excellent. Nice and smooth rotation yet very tight tolerances. The CNC work is excellent.

Now, I'm not out to copy Ron's bike but it's certainly inspiration. I've also got the Godfather's full fairing left to paint and install. I'm saving that for the off season.

Here's the promised pic:

Do you have to run special pads with the wave rotors?

I'm hoping to finally add black wheels to my bike by the end of this year, and am going to simply get whole new sprocket/rotors so that I have two complete wheel sets. I was thinking of picking up the wave rotors for something different, but am kind of wavering on it as I do not want to have to run sintered pads or anything else special that may change my braking characteristics drastically.

That's a good question. As far as I know, you don't need to run specific pads. That's not to say you shouldn't get the best pads you can. I know my back has always been a bit soft compared to other bikes I've ridden and the wave rotor is supposed to help that a little bit.

The separate set think is kind of what I did as well except that I ended up getting rid of the back stuff already (1 set of 2003 belt drive, 1 set of 2004 belt drive and the rear rim). I had bought a second front rim that had a rotor on it as well, so I've already sold that rotor, the rim is being powder coated and when that's done, I'll have a front rim, tire and rotor to get rid of. I don't see much point in keeping the extras. That's why the body parts are going to go as well when I get the race fairing package mounted.

If someone knows for sure about the pads, let us know.

I'm also a fan of Ron's bike and work. Would like to see more of us try some Euro-type streetfighter mods & customization.

Collecting parts myself right now for next winter's project. Worried that my Braking wave rotor (front) might be prone to warping, as per Ron's experience; hoping we get access soon to the ZTL2 front caliper!

Nice parts collection, Pc! Wish I could afford that chain kit right now, but might have to resort to ghetto kit or Goodyear belt drive conversion.

I would like to see the 2 caliper rear and 8 caliper front. Not sure why/what would cause that rotor to warp. Unless the design results in it cooling too quickly....or, maybe pads do play a big part.

I'm still wanting to get a ztl2 caliper for the race bike.

Sorry guys, but I hope the race teams get precedence when they become available.

Me too, but I have a feeling there will be enough to go around...

You noticed that the XBRR caliper is finished just like a production part and says "ZTL2" on the side of it yes ;)? I'm next to certain that the '07 bikes will come with the ZTL2 and it'll be freely available over the counter. Of course for an anony to say that would be to admit to a certain production part, and they certainly won't do that...

I'd be thrilled if that was the case. I'd like one on my street bike too.

That does not make me a happy guy. From what Henry Duga was telling me that is a huge mark-up over list for that caliper too.

You're right Ron. I thought something was missing. I think I must have put that on the bike already.

I like that brake, but man, at that price I'll stick with what I have on my bike already.
