Can someone tell me how the Buell tank bag attaches to the "tank"? Do you have to take the airbox cover off to put it on? Does it come with straps to use it as a back pack when you take it off? Can you see the gauges well with it on? Does it go on and come off easily? Thanks.

I don't know, I'm been waiting for mine for over a month now along with my tall windscreen for my Uly...

Bought one then took it back. Not big enough for what i needed. Mounted fine, but the straps flapped around when i didnt have the bag attached.

Ended up with a sling type bag... much more comfortable for me.

I just got mine a couple of days ago and I like it. It attaches to the 4 screws on the air box with locking clips, it comes off and on real easy. But as Don668 said the front clips do flop around when riding without the bag.

I have the Cortech micro mini tank bag and when not in use (like now because I have a broken collarbone and will be off the bike until the fall)I just take the whole unit off. I love the bag, but if you are looking for more space just use a sling bag along with it and or get the buell saddle and trunk bag like I have. Cortech also makes the saddlebags and trunk bag very similar to the buell bags but not as stiff. Good Luck.

The front clips are short enough that they don't flop around that much. The rear clip can simply be tucked under the saddle when not in use. By the way, the bag expands by almost two inches in height when you unzip the expansion section along the top... it's more than big enough for me! One drawback, the rain cover was designed for the fully expanded tank bag, and if you cover the tank bag when it is in the shorter height, the rain cover swells up and starts flapping all over the place! Makes it hard to see the map underneath.

It comes with a shoulder strap, but oddly enough it isn't exactly clear what you're supposed to attach it to...

I posted detailed pictures, including measurements a while back, search for buell bags or something along those lines.

Here's the link. The only problem is getting one from Buell. This post was from the beginning of the month and Daves tells me they should get it to him by the end of the month. If you want it fast I'd suggest finding one in stock or getting the Cortech mentioned in some tank bag threads here. I wanted the Buell bag to be sure it fit but I regret that decision now.

I have heard there have been some problems with the new buell tank bag's
twist-locks that hold the map pocket on unlocking themselves on the road.

Anyone have any experience with this problem?

Nope. And the map pouch is also held on by velcro besides the twist knobs. I like it, because if a set of directions spans two pages I don't have to take the directions out, turn it over, then shove it back into the pouch; I just have to flip the pouch over. There is also a hidden pocket behind the map pouch that is the perfect location for my EZ Pass. The forward tilt of the bag puts it in the perfect location to hold the EZ Pass. It has only failed to work a couple of times.

I also have the bag. I really like that it has internal support, so the bag holds its shape.

I only have 2 issues with it. First the plastic map pouch (at least on mine) does not lay perfectly flat, it causes a slight wrinkle in the clear plastic that reflect sunlight like crazy.
Second issue is the rear attachment point will scratch the airbox if you are not using the bag, and forget to tuck it under the seat... I brought a piece of fake carbon fiber to make a tank protector, works great.

interesting side note on the XB tank bags - I was running with a bunch of BMW dualsports yesterday ( 1100GS's, 1150's, and 1200's) and it turns out that the stock BMW tank bag is the EXACT same unit. different mount system for SOME of the BMW models, but thats it.

apparently its not exactly 'untested' gear, and the BMW guys claimed its lasted really well compared to other gear they've tried.

I love my tank bag. I got it for the trip to homecoming and it was great. No problems with the map pouch, all zippers stayed closed. Honestly, with the capacity of the Uly bags the only thing I had in the tank bag were a couple of hats, our smokes, a rag and extra maps.
Since then it has been very handy.

Thanks for providing the link mike.
I haven't experienced a problem with the map pocket coming undone; although I agree with the plastic being very reflective. I place my GPS unit in the pouch (don't have a mount) and it is hard to see if it isn't in the shade.

I love the Buell tank bag for my XB. I've carried everything I've ever wanted to carry in the bag. A six pack even fits in there ( Just FYI I never "drink" and ride) but as far as picking it up at the store and going home it's perfect. I can almost go grocery shopping with my tank bag, tail bag, and backpack. Very good products that compliment the Buell (IMO)

I like the bags size but I found a couple of problems, the rear small pouch detached itself while riding and bounced off the road into forest never to be seen again, it had been clipped on firm before starting out but rough roads perhaps tested the clips to their limit. Other issue was it scratched the top of my tank quite a lot, I had it fully expanded/loaded and tied down firm but it moved about a bit over bumps and perhaps some dust got under the bag which then created a lot of fine scratches. So my tip is don't put your digital camera in the pouch : ( , and tape up your tank well.
