Okay, on the left we have an orange, on the right we have an apple, but do we have a salad yet or are we still talking about individual unmixed fruit. (I'm thinking the name "Semi-Synthetic" is used more as a verb than an identifier, and I'm thinking the "Special Formula" might be the blend I was thinking of, and then I"m also thinking I should just ride my bike and ensure that whatever I pour into it is fresh and appropriate.) | ||

Here's a question...say I would get tired of riding my Battle Blue XB9R and wanted to change the body panels to white (or maybe a new 2004 color), any ideas on the prices of the pieces? | ||

According to a picking ticket I had made: $60.25 for each side of the chin fairing, $109 for the front fender, $125 for the fairing, $92.50 for the tailsection, and $40 for the seat cover - $487 total. This was all for blue pieces but it seems that should give you an idea. | ||

I guess when you compare the prices to other brands, they arent that bad. I remember when the Blast came out,(if I remember correctly) they were supposed to have color body panel kits for around $200. Not sure what that included though. On a different note...has anyone spent the $75 for the Traction footpegs? Do they cut down on vibration? More comfortable? | ||

Question: Has anyone tried to get a dealership to replace the XB wheel bearings under warranty? The warranty literature provided does not specifically cover nor deny coverage of them. ChainSaw | ||

I like the traction pegs, we have them on my boss' Firebolt and I've sold several sets to others that seem to like them as well. I even sold a set to Erik! Ride to the edge! Eliminates headshake and minor oscillations. It's like a shock absorber for your steering head pivot. | ||

Doesn't seem necessary on a properly set-up Firebolt. Funny, in the BMW world people sometimes remove the factory dampener to make the steering "lighter" Grass is always greener? Can't leave well enough alone? or, provide your own saying _________________ BTW, my 'bolt is at Earl Small's. They've handled the sidestand recall and the speedo sensor and are just waiting for a new front rotor. Plan on picking it up when I'm back in N GA in a couple weeks - hope the weather's at least a LITTLE warmer! | ||

A recent post to www.i-bmw.com: There are no adjustments on the steering damper. There are also a lot of us who either took it off or never replaced it when it leaked all its fluid out. Mine leaked its fluid out but I didn't notice any difference in handling. My dealer said not to replace it as it is over $200 and you don't need it anyway. As always YMMV. And the photo from my N GA trip I couldn't post last night:  Don't know why I can't post this damn picture! | ||

Tne XB9S Low has a 28.6" seat height and the parts supplement shows a different seat, fork and shock. Got one in at work but haven't really had a chance to do more than glance at it. | ||

XBR9 Idler Pulley Removal Made Easy: For those of you who have had trouble (like me, Darthane & Sparky!) getting the idler pulley off of the XB, here goes...after you have followed the Service Manuals instructions and find the pulley stubbornly stuck, take broom handle sans broom, poke one end from the shifter side of the bike above the muffler clean through to the pulley on the rear brake side. Apply liberal force to the broom stick with your choice of big-ass hammer. Ta-da! Pops right off, and does not seriously mar the pulley. I wish I had tried this 2 hours earlier than I did. Has anyone noticed the new accessories for the Firebolt on the www.buell.com website? 2 Graphics pkgs, a new polished rear belt sprocet as well as the 1" lower XB9s footpegs. All of it is pretty reasonably priced too. | ||

I kind of like the "Race Competition Graphics Package" The flag on the chin fairing looks sharp. They also added a cam kit for the Blast. Wonder if the XB's are next to get them?  | ||

I would probably leave some of the smaller decals off but the checkered flags look pretty cool. I'd like to see the shark's mouth on the other Jet Fighter kit ; like a P40 Warhawk. | ||

Ran across a German web site that has some new XB items. http://www.r-r-customizing.de/ They have a new handlebar setup that seems like it would solve the riser issue  And they also have windshield in red and blue. Might have to think about the blue one  Price seem a little high after the Euro conversion though. $461 for the bars and $149 for the shield but at least the aftermarket is picking up | ||

Zero Gravity also makes replacement windshields for the Firebolts. I've been running one for about a month and am happy with it. | ||

Yeah, I have the dark tint one that is taller than the stock shield from ASB. Much better wind protection than stock size | ||

I just had the opportunity to ride, the infield course at California Speedway. My thoughts on the Firebolt. I came away amazed with its handling ability. In regards to the motor the power was good based on my riding abitily.Going down the straights setting up the braking point to enter the turn. Sure I got passed by faster bikes and better riders. But also did my fair share of passing to. The bike just just felt automatic, like you did not have think about anything the bike just did it on its own. | ||

I just saw a wild custom (XB9R?)! The frame was painted white with a '50's type pin-up painted on it (a detail I could have done without). The fairing, airbox and tail section were all gone. There was a flat plate flush with the frame covering the engine(also white) with an opening for the air intake. The air intake was routed into two black "scoops" that had flared openings at the front of the bike. My first thought was that the thing was sort of ugly, but it's starting to grow on me the more I think about it. Someone must know this bike. I saw it at the Lowes in Mount Laurel/Maple shade NJ. Are there any pictures floating around out there? I'd love to get another look. | ||

Race compound tires, a little safety wire on the oil drains, secure the oil filter and maybe a steering stabilizer. Fresh oil. Go over it real good to make sure all the bearings & brakes are in good shape, and that all the fasteners /fittings are tight. Get a good night sleep the night before. Have Fun! | ||

Track day: bleed your brakes *really* well for max feel and power. Start out slow and get the feel for the track; get the bike/yourself warmed up before picking up the pace. Eat a light breakfast and snack all day: V8 juice, trail mix, hard boiled eggs. Hydrate like your life depended on it (pun intended ) - Gatorade mixed 50/50 with water works better than pure. If you start to loose concentration or feel tired GET OFF THE TRACK !!. There is always another session, another day. Henrik |
