yup, on an 06 I wouldn't change the tranny fluid, but all other years: full synthetic!

Yes, if you go with Harley's SYN 3. I would wait at least another 1000 miles if you go with AMS OIL MCV. Regardless I would go synthetic in both holes.

This is an oil thread!
How can everyone agree like this?
This is unheard of!
It's still early though, it is the weekend, looks like nice weather too.

I agree, I changed to full synthetic, at 500 miles. 45,000 (s)miles later, no problems.

yup, i did too, switched around 500mi. been running syn ever since. (currently ~6300mi)

question though, i just went M1 15W50 in both cavities after reading about the M1 gear oil issues.

is M1 15W50 in engine AND primary still a recommended option?

I did, too. Mobil 1, because I can find it anywhere when I need it.

M1 gear oil issues.
I've not heard of any, been using M1 75W/90 for all this time.
What's up?

Yes. I would recommend Red Line 20W-50.

Royal Purple 20-50W. Love the stuff. Works wonders as well in my Saab 9000 turbo that pulls 25psi in hot, hot L.A. traffic.

Do it.

I switched to Syn 3 at 1000 in both and had no issues. I just recently switched to Amsoil on Kevin Drum's recommendation on my '04 XB12R with just over 18,000 miles on the clock.

I'm not going to say what I use. Just use a good oil. Harley Syn3, Mobil 1, Redline, etc.. They're all good. Just avoid the cheap (as in low quality) stuff.

Oh as for the main question. I switched my 05 12Scg to syn at 2500 miles.

Even though I trust myself to work on my bikes more than anyone for most stuff, I bought my '06 Uly with free 2yr maintenance services and I intend to use them at least for the first 20k. Which by the way will occur rather soon since my bike is just a month old and I've racked up over 2k. I pay a $25 surcharge for Syn3 with a service, and if that's what HD wants to use in my bike to avoid warranty claims then that's what I'm using.

I'm normally a Mobil 1 and Valvoline Syntec or Duroblend guy depending on which of my or my kid's vehicles. But the Buell is gonna get Syn3.

HD Syn since 500 miles - bike runs cooler (fan comes on less, for shorter time).

Mobil One lube in trans - it definitely shifts better.

Hey guys, I'm ready to do my 1000 oil change today and trans as well. I have a 06xbss and I was going to put syn3 in both holes, thats what my Harley dealer told me to do. I noticed that someone said not to put syn3 in the trany. Any thoughts and why not!

Mobil V-twin. Walmart and Autozone both have it.

Yah I'm wondering about the same thing with the 06' XB12Ss and why not to put it in the tranny? I did and everything seems perfect with mine.

I would not use the HD syn. Reason,
they will not publish any product data on the oil. Since it is a group 3 ALMOST syn, I would not use it in my bike.

The M1, Red Line and Amsoil are all real syn oils with data to back them up.

IMHO!
