OK read this one, 2004 xb9r struggling to start in the mornings but then for the rest of the day fine. It is winter here so a dying battery would seem logical but not really keen on buying a battery at $250 if that ain;t the problem. Anyone know any better?

what temp is the bike kept in? When I ride mine at the beginning and end of winter, I find that when the temp drops to below 20 at night, the bike does struggle to turn over first thing in the morning, but id fine the rest of the day.

$250 for a battery???????? What is going on in Australia? I can buy one and ship it to you for less than that.

Make sure your battery terminals are torqued to factory specs. Also, use a bit of thread locker on them. My battery needed tightening on the order of once a week until I used some loc-tite on them, now its not an issue.

If your battery cables are even slightly loose, many things can happen. A few examples are: Headlights and dashboard lights dimming while in motion. GPS or other accessories resetting themselves, heated clothing not functioning properly, and the list goes on. The problem will always be intermittent due to the fact that vibration is the root cause. It's frustrating and can seem like many other things are wrong with it. As with automotive electrical systems, most of the time if you can find a bad ground or intermittent contact, it solves a whole bag full of problems all at once.
