Remember the thread couple of weeks ago with the frame, swingarm etc of a black 12 R from the guy who builded a hardtail. We needed a frame for a racebike so we go into the auction and were overbidden with 10$. After the auction we get an ebayemail as the second highest bidder if we like to buy this item, because the winning bidder was not able to complete the transaction. That happens ..... We say yes and the seller tell us he like to use the ebay safer service and we get a eMail from ebay. Again we got a originallooking ebaymail with all the details of the transaction. As I read WESTERN Union... I get a alarm and check the story. The money shall go to Romania, the ebay account: dacie85pizda ( 0 ) less than 1 month is from the Philippines and was not the original seller. "As I read WESTERN Union... I get a alarm and check the story." Some Ebay advice - ANYTIME you see/hear Western Union, RUN away as fast as you can. It's like sending cash and that's how the crooks try to hook you. If the Ebay seller has good feedback, accepts Paypal, or certified funds and they have a legitimate mailing address (inside the USA) you shouldn't have any problems. The example above sounds like "organized crime", most Ebayers are legit - but bottom line is, if it's too good to be true, it's not. | ||

jens I have been bidding on ebay items like that for months now and almost every time that will happen. i found out only contact sellers through ebay or if you can via phone calls. PS I poped the clutch a couple of weeks ago and put a very small scrath on the frame, maybe less then an inch. Now geico wants to total the bike. I bid on a van once. And got the same thing. Everything looked official, until I noticed a typo. I played along for a while sending copies to ebay fraud and the FBI. Ended up getting a notice from DHL (again official looking) that they were holding my 'package' and as soon as I wired the money to this seller, and not telling the wire service it was an ebay purchase, they would load it on the truck for delivery. I chuckle still at the struggle they would have getting that 16 foot box truck in their 12 foot delivery van. | ||

This is why some sellers put a note on their auctions that they do not contact people with second chance offers. So you know if you don't win the auction and get another offer, it is a fake. When I was looking for a Buell I surfed ebay frequently and found one that was a fake. They had used the photos from a classified ad on cycletrader.com. I turned it in to ebay and they yanked the ad. It had all the symptoms of a fraud; low Buy-It-Now price, low feedback, lots of misspelled words and a brief description. Buyer beware. Bill | ||

Never reply to Ebay messages in your e-mail. If they are legit, they will be in "My Ebay" messages. Recently I have gotten fake Ebay and Paypal messages in my e-mail. They all say there is some sort of problem and that you have to log-in to fix it. Thats how they trick you into giving them your user name and password......yikes beware !!!! | ||

With ebay that starts now in Europe. What we get here daily 5-10 are Mails from the bank. "There is a problem with your account, click here". Than you come on a site that looks like the frontend of your bank, there you have to "confirm" your logins and give in a transaction pincode.... With that that took your money. What you have done in Amerika in the Wild West with people who stole your horse...? Jens | ||

Be a little wary of the old "1st Bidder dropped out you interested?" ploy. There was a scammer doing that one on Aussie auctions not long ago. He was the one bidding against you to drive the price higher. |
