So I've been back in the 'States from deployment for about two weeks now, and the day I check out on leave (Friday) I pick up my XB12R from Skagit HD. That afternoon I installed the Smoke tail light lens from Clear Alternatives, K&N air filter and axle sliders from American Sportbike, and HID headlight kit from Xenon Depot. I pack up a backpack that evening and head east to go see my family in Salt Lake City, UT. I end up stopping in some town in southern Washington for the night. Next day I make it to Mountain Home to visit with a friend of mine at the Air Force base there. Made it home Sunday and am really happy to see my family. Was a fun ride and I did actually see a couple of other Buellers out there!

First off I have to say I will definitely be changing out the seat on this bike! My rear is so freakin sore! I will be checking out the Buell dealer here in Salt Lake City to see if I like the Select seat, or possibly get a friend to make a custom one here.

The HID headlight kit I installed has already paid itself off in my opinion. I never actually rode at night with the stock headlamps but reading here let me know how important it was to change them out. Even just having the low beam on was more than twice as bright as any car next to me. The kit wasn't too bad to install either, thanks to the submission by this guy:
http://www.ifmracing.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=148
The kit I installed was a little different, but got the ballasts to fit in the same spot as he did.

I did see a couple of other Buellers as I was riding here. Leaving Boise Saturday on I-84 Eastbound I passed a tuber (not sure what model), and yesterday on I-84 I saw a pack of bikes with at least two XBs heading west. Was wondering if possibly they saw me and browse this forum?

So ending thoughts on this trip after 1000 miles on the odo: I love Buells! Believe it or not, picking up my XB on Friday was the first time I had even sat on a Buell, let alone ridden one. Risky buy? Not after getting to know this forum. I can't wait to get back to install my Micron Serpent system, Direct Link, and LED tail light! I'm glad I bought the American Sportbike.

Sorry about the long post, I just felt long winded after this long trip.

Justin,
I'm still not sure about that Tuber. It definitely had an aftermarket exhaust, and the mirrors were bar ends hanging down below the handgrips.
I'll have to ask my friend when he gets off work what unit he's in. I do know he's a crew chief for the F-15.

Justin,
Sounds like a good idea! I'll probably be heading up around the 27th or 28th depending on when I want to be back.

I second the need for brighter lamps...

What was the part number of the kit you installed?

Be careful of higher wattage bulbs. There have been reports of melted lenses with stock bulbs.

HID is the way to go if you want more light, they produce less heat than stock bulbs do.

Here is a slick HID kit from a reputable company for a good price too.

I've been considering it for my firebolt.

Lost in ohio,
Here is the url for the kit I used: http://www.xenondepot.com/product.php?product_id=2

Diablobrian,
I was warned in advance about the bulbs melting, further quickening my install of HID.

Justin,
I added you to my yahoo! messenger list. Hit me up.

All,
I'll post up a vid of what it looks like (so you all can see how the color starts out blue then "mellows out" to white)

Here's the links to the 3 videos I just made of my HID lights turning on. First is low beam, then high beam. I'll make better quality vids when I get the time (feeling a little under the weather right now).

Sam, it was me and my buddies that you saw on Sunday, and I did see you too. We were coming back from the races at Miller Motorsports Park. I'd be down for going for a ride or something when you're here as well.

Hey Mike are you any good at working on Buells? I dropped my the other week and might need some help putting it back together. If you and or your friends would be interested in helping a fellow buell rider that would be greatly appreciated. By the way my email is a couple of posts up if you want to get a hold of me.

Mike,
I would have loved to have made it to that event at Miller Motorsports. I heard Buells did really well there, save for the XBRR clutches (if I heard right).

Mike and Justin,

I look forward to making a pit stop/detour to ride with you once I start heading back. I will hit you two up before I do to work out the details. You can leave me a message at 801-335-9498. I probably won't answer because it rings my Yahoo messenger.
