Just got an 04 XB12R about a month ago and I love everything about the bike. I do have trouble with the mirrors shaking. Sometimes I can't tell if it's a bike or a car behind me. Anyone know any tricks to help with this? Everything looks pretty much stock except for the turbo...just kidding...except for the race kit. I have seen the bar end mirrors and heard about ways to dampen the vibration through the clip-ons...but I'm not sold on the look. I saw that Al had some mirror extenders for an 03? that would work...but that would just let me see past my elbows when i'm wearing my riding jacket...doesn't say anything about clearing up the picture from the vibration. Would a small rubber gasket help? Anyone ever find anything that worked? Thanks

Welcome to badweb, and congrats on getting your Buell!

I don't have any mirror tricks, I have considered the bar ends myself, but haven't committed to it yet.

On my XB9S I have Napoleon bar end mirrors, and a BARSNAKE in the bars.
Very little vibration and a perfect rear view.
I don't know how this might work on an R

bar end mirrors are the way to go for a clear view behind you. Just having your hands on the bars dampens the vibes. Of course you can take extra measures like the barsnake or filling the bars with lead shot or whatever. Myself I have 1 bar end mirror, left side. It's just for the cops to look at because I rarely use it. I turn my head.

You turn your head to look 180 degrees behind you?? Exorcist style??!!

My issue with bar ends is that you (at least with an S you do - maybe your R is different) have to drop your head and look down just to see in them (because of the chin bar of a full-face helmet). If you are driving in heavy traffic that second or two it takes you to get your eyes back up looking ahead could be bad news if traffic decides to stop suddenly, or if a pesky whitetail appears on a country road. I'd rather get a vibratey view of 'something' (car or bike) in my mirror. I am going to look into better looking traditional style mirrors for my S though (lower profile ones). I can handle having to pull my elbow in a little to see while using a lower mounted mirror - but looking all the way down at the end of the bar - thats for the birds IMHO.

bar ends are the "END" to vibration. i have them on my 04xb12r and they are EXCELLENT! i couldn't see crap in my stockers. these are like looking in my car rear view mirror now. perfect view w/ no vibration. i also don't look at my elbows anymore. (see profile for pic)

Well, looks like there isn't a whole lot of options out there. I might play with the stocks to see if I can clean them up...but if I can't get anything to work I think I might be leaning towards those Rizoma class retro....thanks

I said I have 1 mirror, so no, I don't have to turn my head all the way around, only to check my blind spots. I accelerate always when changing lanes as my safety warrants.

I put CRG lane spliters on my bike and I love them , best upgrade I made . A little pricey but worth the money IMO . little or no vibration .

No, Napoleon bar ends mean you don't have to move your head to see behind you. I don't know what things look like hanging the mirrors under the grips, I always put them above. Due to the curvature, I get at least a 90-degree view of what's behind me (I see what's directly behind in both mirrors). Mine are probably 30 years old and have been on several bikes, no garaging. I bought a spare on eBay, make sure you don't get the imitation with the metal expander, you want the Japanese "Napoleon Baren" with the rubber expander.

PS, on XB12R.
