Well everyone, I made it home safetly. The demob process is hell, but it's finally over. The entire city was gathered to celebrate our arrival.

So I went out to start up the Lightning and it wont turn over...The battery seems to be pumping out enough, it just wont turn over. I put it on a charger anyway and will try it again in a bit.
I am wondering if anyone has any tips/ideas to throw at me. I am relatively experienced on bikes, but cannot find anything on the Buell. For example, could they have made the plugs anymore difficult to get to?
I'll let the dogs out, visit some more family and check back here later. Thanks ahead to those who respond!

ttfn...

'06's are easier to get to the plugs.

Can you be more specific? What do you mean by the battery seems to be pumping out enough but bike won't turn over? What happens when you hit starter button?Key on,switch in run position, kickstand down, clutch in, bike in nuetral--all of that done--right?
When you turn the key on does the fuel pump cycle up etc? And have you put a volt meter on the battery? Stuck the battery charger on yet?

Try a jump or push start.

The starter sounds like it should I believe. It seems to be turning fast enough.

Yes the fuel pump does cycle. There is a strange scent of fuel. I would like to drain it and put fresh in, but can not find the drain. Though it can't be that old, due to the bike only sitting 2 months without a start.
The battery has been on 2A charge since this morning. Also tried jumping...Have not put a volt meter on it yet....

Got it to start...The plugs were fouled. With HD shops in town being closed on Mondays, it was tough to find a parts store with them in stock...
All is good and it runs just perfect.

Alanhouse,

Did you fly on Ryan International Airlines out of Kuwait on the way home? The flight stopped in Hhan Germany.....Keflavik, Iceland......Portsmith, NH.....and then Gulfport, MS. I am a flight mechanic for RIA. I just got off a trip last week that brought home a bunch of guys from a PA Guard unit. They were field artilary guys, 13B's. Just wondering if you were on my plane. If so.......mother f**king small world!

Alanshouse,

Glad you are home safe & sound and that the XB is running.

For future reference in getting trouble-shoting assistance, "won't turn over" generally means the starter won't turn the engine. I think you meant "it won't fire". At any rate, glad you got it figured out.

Alanshouse,

Welcome home and God bless you, your family and your motorcycle. Its folks like you that make sure folks like me can sleep in our comfy beds, shop at nice markets for food we didn't have to kill and enjoy the right to vote and pursue happiness in whatever form we choose.

My dad was a vet of Viet Nam and Korea, and Grandfather (not a US citizen) was a Merchant Marine Navigator in the Mediterranean Sea before and during the entire European conflict. I was days away from joining the Army just before the first Gulf War but my dad passed away and my mother would have been left alone, so I stayed here.

I support my local Viet Nam Vets Motorcycle Club and VFW branch. 'nuff said.
