Fellow Buellers,
I'm playing with the idea of building a carburated second engine for my XB12S. What year engines (from the tuber era) would fit my frame with no major driveline, swing arm or frame attachment problems? Is this too much of a project? Should I instead be looking for a 2003-06 engine to modify with carb, etc?

A tuber engine will need major work to fit.
Stick with an XB motor.

Ferrolano - If I where you i would use the XB motor and look at the sportsters intake setup, I beleave the heads on the new sportster design are very similar if not the same. it might be easyer to use this set up with a carb. But I think you will have frame clearance issues trying to mount the carb on the right side of the motor like it usally is. what ever you come up with it will not be easy in that frame. I would just stick with the EFI.

I seem to remember that one of the racing guys on the west coast runs carbs on an XB race bike. I saw it at Willow.

Slaughter will know. Might have been Bartels, just a guess.

Seems like Daves was trying that when he was at Waterloo. I believe it was a snowmobile carb experiment. Don't know the outcome.

There was an outcome, just not a good one.
The bike, as I remember ran great at WOT but no where else.
I left Waterloo before it was done so I am not sure if they ever got it to run right.
I am guessing not since they put the FI back on it.
Craig?
