Hey badwebers. Im A new bueller as of four months ago. About a month into my new ownership my bike had a case of the break in hickups (dead misses and stumbles) while making a turn at 15mph roll. This little stumble put me just close enough to a curb that my tires caught and chased the curb. The bike slowed as my foot came down in a clumbsy manner between the curb and bike which lead to the dropping of my bike. No injuries just embarrasing. I was wondering if anyone knows what the cost of a frame swap is. Insurance is going to pay for the damages but I was just wondering if it is going to be worth the time it takes the dealership to get it fixed this summer. I was told by someone at the dealership it could be a $4000 bill. The damages are, baseball size dent/scrape(about an inch deep)on frame where puck should be, scraped muffler and tip, broke front signal, scratched rear signal, scraped rear foot peg. I know someone here has gone through this before and knows what I'll be getting into. Thanks everyone.

Is there a hole in the frame? If not, cover that baby up with a puck (that's what Ima do) I'll give you my stock exhaust can, I'll give you a rear foot peg, hell, I'll even give you the whole bracket if you'd like. I have a lens that may work I'll give you, get an estimate, turn it in to your insurance, pocket the money, if you want to, use the money, take it to a car body shop, have them spot repair your fuell cell, and bingo, cash in your pocket and a pretty restored bike.

Slap a puck on it and ride it until winter. The dealership is going to take 3+ weeks to do a frame swap.

Then again you could take the cash, puck the frame and buy a really nice exhaust and race ecm with the extra cash.

I would fill and sand the dent before the puck application.

welcome to badweb!

fix the thing the functional items and ride.
fix the cosmetics as you can, if you don't want to turn in the insurance claim.

If you do turn it in they may "total" it and you could get a chance to buy it back
from them cheap, then use the balance of the payout to re-build it, or make a race
bike out of it. Either way you win.

There is allready a set of pucks to cover the damage and beleive me im still riding. I have definately thought about the "pocket the money from insurance" but im still curious of the cost to be fixed "the rite way". I allready have the ecm to match the drummer I will soon buy. I can fix the dent and every thing else but just want to know what insurance would pay. Any $$ gueses?
Wow thanks cochise! Are all Badwebbers this generous? Obviously yall are quick to respond.

Not all are that generous but a bunch are as generous as it's possible for them to be.

Tell ya what - if you can take the money and just RIDE it!

The frame is just fine.

IF you swap the frame under insurance, see if you can buy it salvage from the insurance company and sell it to one of the racers (hint, hint, hint... : D )

I think I will just take the money and ride. Either way total or not I will be using the money to pay of the note. I guess nobody has a guess or any experience with this damage cost. If they total it which I doubt, im going to buy it back. I have an appointment friday for insurance quote, any body want to take a guess before I get the actual numbers?

I was under the understanding ,just for the cost of the frame and not counting the other Hundreds/ Thousands of dollars for other related smashed parts,Plus Labour to install just the frame,
Just with the dent in the frame it wd. be considered wrote off???

Buy it back CHEAP and with a clear title tell em that LoL and do 100.00 worth of body work on the frame, pair of frame pucks, and a little help from all the friends, get back on the saddle and ride....

I got 5,400 with no salvage title on an 03. The repairs were less than $100.00. Although I have a small scratch on my frame it is under the new pucks.

HD dealerships won't even repaint the frame replacing it is the only option if even slightly damaged. At least according to HD.

Whoo Hooo free money!

Replacement frame is around $1100-1300, plus other broken parts/pieces and labor.

XBP - Is Sac. going to be at the Nat's in Louisville this year?

Slaughter is just looking for a "B" bike. Or maybe a fireblast race bike.

Well depending on the shop the 4k quote is about right. I just recently totaled my XB and the frame from a HD shop is 1300.00 If you get one from Dave I believe it is around 1100.00 The labor is what will kill you on this swap. It's fairly easy to do if you have good mechanical skills. If not then I would not attempt a frame swap. Of course this is only if you cant live with the frame damage and wont use a puck to cover it up.

On another thread jack note, like slaughter I am looking for a XB12R with a salvage title. Looking to get into racing but need to find a totaled bike that is repairable. Anyone know of one PM me pretty please. I am fixing mine for street duty which is why I want to buy another for the track only.
