On a '06 Lightening Long, Progressive quoted me $500 ded full coverage $780 a year, and $250 ded full cov $830/yr. I'm 39 and live in a rural suburb.

I feel this seems kind of steep. I thought these weren't considered sport bikes, least not the Lightenings anyway?

I live in Jersey and I pay $180 a year for just collision, being 23 and on a 12S it would have been like $2500 a year, even with Rider insurance.

It is a common thread, so that is why not many have replied. If you look in the Knowledge Vault for Insurance threads you'll find a ton.

I'm 25, live in Overland Park Kansas (KC), and I pay $360 a year for full coverage with 500 deductables with State Farm. State Farm was by far the cheapest that I could find.

I started out in 03 at 800.00, that was the best I could get. The following year it dropped to 600.00 due to a group discount. At least I know I have a honest insurance agent. Rural Massachusetts age 34

good lord, you people outside of california have it EASY

Perfect driving record, M-1 license endorsement for 17 years.

Progressive cost me $2200 per year for full coverage with $500 deductible. After spending almost $5000 on insurance over a two year period on a bike that only cost $12500 I figure I'll take my chances.

So now I got Gecko insurance, the least possible liability coverage for $225 per year, $500 deductible.

Cali is expensive, but you get a lot of bang for the buck. I would love to move back to Cali so I could ride year round, have a couple hour drive to the mountains and be at the beach in no time. As far as things to do outside Cali is king. Plus you make more money for living out there anyway.

I live in upstate NY (middle of nowhere). Pay around $300 for the full year for 2 bikes (XB12S and VZ800) full coverage + rider for accessories through dairyland. $500 ded. It pays to shop around. My existing insurance company wanted $2700/yr to cover just the XB..

Full year up here is cheaper since there is normally very little riding to be done in Dec, Jan,Feb,Mar. .

I went through Harley via Dairyland for my 05 SX
around 250 for full coverage 250 deductible. The difference between 1000 deductible and 250 deductible was less than 5 dollars.
Progressive was like $1200 another company was $750. Better shop around.

$464/yr with 100/300 bodily injury coverage; $250 comp/coll deductible - HD insurance underwritten by Dairyland (got at my local HD dealer). Progressive wanted $900/yr for $500 deductible and lower bodily injury amounts. F them.
25 years old, I've had my license 1 year and have MSF & spotless driving record. Keep in mind though I am in Maine and they adjust the rates for the fact that we can't ride for 6+ months a year.

I live in California and pay $540/year for full coverage--not sure what the deductable it (i think $500). I feel pretty lucky (although I have 2 vehicles, house & condo as well thru the same company). The company is Allied Insurance. Happy so far--esp with a DUI about 3.5 years in the rear view mirror.

In FL (And, I'm an old fart! 55) $145.00 a year for maximum total coverage. That includes PIP, medical coverage that covers 80% of all hospital & doctor bills if involved in an accident.

"I make more because I live out here?"

Are you joking me? I spend more because I live here. I make more because I work my ass off.

I own ten work trucks that suck down $12000 a month in fuel. My mortgage is almost $3000 a month. My insurance is over $15000 a month when you count the house, all the trucks and the bikes.

Top that off with I support my mom and my brother and I have two teenage sons.

Being able to ride year round is nice, but consider that we have the worst drivers in the country. And MORE of them. 11,000,000 people in LA county alone.

Not to mention the reduced highway funding we get due to the fact that our state legislature sees fit to violate so many federal laws. Our roads SUCK for the most part, you have to drive 100 miles in any direction before you stop taking a beating from the horrible state of these roads.

I moved to orange county less than a year ago. I've gotten 2 tickets, both on the TOLL ROAD that I PAY $4.00 each way to drive on... and I got ARRESTED 3 weeks ago.

Anybody want to buy a house, ten trucks, 3 cars, 2 bikes and trade lives? Orange county... great weather, and you'll MAKE MORE for living here.

Sorry I couldnt let that go by. more money.. sheeesh I am barely scraping by.

Amen, Pwnzor... I was born here in KA and lived here all my life but my youngest is now 18 I'm ready to bail! I think a lot of people can't imagine the impact of our incredible urban sprawl until they come here and drive a couple hundred miles without leaving the city!

With my perfect DMV Harley quoted me $800 for full coverage on my Uly, my car insurance agent roughly the same. Progressive offered me $620 and I was almost ready to go with them but I remembered Rider Magazine used to advertise Rider Insurance (not the same as the NJ-based Rider), and I had good rates for my BMW with them in the past, so I dug into my bike mag boxes and found an issue with an ad.

I called the number and I was amazed that it still worked, it's GMAC Insurance that offered the Rider policies. This was a Sunday afternoon and they apparently work 24/7. I was quoted $490 w/ $1000 ded/full coverage so I jumped on it.

You KA guys might want to check with GMAC Insurance, you can do a quote on their website but I got mine cheaper by calling them. Phone # 800-847-2886.

Oh and one more jab at my state, there's pending legislation from what I hear which will reduce motor insurance for those who live in population-packed, crime-ridden dense urban areas... while raising rates for the rest of us in the suburbs to cover the increases. Gotta love KA!

I have GMAC insurance, the "Rider" program. The XB9SX is running me 190 a year for full coverage/500 deductible. BUT! I have several other motorcycles insured through them as well and I get a multi-vehicle discount.

Shop around!

btw, the reason i switched from progressive was not only the price.

I found out they are backed by George Soros and they give money to all sorts of left wing crap organizations.

"progressive insurance" its all in the name, right in front of me the whole time.

Pwnzor do you really think that most people don't make more money in CA? It may be different for you because you own your own business, but that was your choice. I would assume that you didn't start the business because it isn't profitable. As a whole people in CA pay the most for their houses, gas, etc.., but they also have the highest average salaries. I contemplated moving home to CA after I graduated from Kansas State, and the starting salaries for jobs out there were substantially higher than in the Midwest and East Coast. Of course the only problem is that the cost of living is also higher than anywhere else. I just figured I'd go check out some other places that I wanted to live in before I moved back to CA. After a couple more years experience in my field, finishing my MBA and living in NYC for two years because I've always wanted to and I'll be back. Life is expensive no matter where you live, but you should be happy that you live in such a beautiful place, have your own business and a couple kids to take care of. Most people would only dream of that.

Buck, you're getting Ripped! Geico is the most expensive. They spend millions in Ads that they have to compensate for.
Alabama is a state where you can obtain insurance cheap.
Call State Farm for a quote down there.

Cheers Pwnzor. We all have our days that suck! I have them constantly as a recent grad (2003) with student loans, car payment, bike payment and of course the 800 lbs gorilla worth of credit card bills from college. I really like that camera and mount that you have on your bike. Can it be pointed down at the ground so it is level during a wheely? It would be an awesome place to get some 3rd gear highway wheely footage from!

Oh yeah, State Farm kicks A$$! They are the cheapest that I've found by a ton.

Yep, the camera mount can be rotated 360 degrees in all directions and is mountable on either side of the bike.

And it is strong enough to hang the whole bike from and a lot more, if the bolts don't pull out of the holes .

Custom made by "Pinner Dave" at Custom Dave's Welding and Fabrication in Lake Los Angeles, CA. I walked in and told him what I wanted, he measured the distance between the holes and 30 minutes later it was being painted.

Since this thread is about insurance I feel obligated to say that this accessory is not covered by mine.

From what I have been told, your insurance rates are based on your credit score as well...so if you have bad credit, then your insurance will be higher too. some of you who are crying about how much you are paying might want to check your credit score and see if that is part of the reason.
