Tingling sensation as i open the garage door. There,at the back of the garage, skulking and moody, all Hero Blue panels and Carbon Fibre.I swear i hear a grunt as i move towards it with with the key." Easy now, one way or another, you're coming out of there". The hand guards look ready to "shoulder barge " me if i put a foot wrong.

I ease the key into place nervously, ok so far. Turn the ignition on and the injectors come to life, red light on the instrument panel glares at me , checking me over , then decides i'm authorised personell and as if in recognition flickers out. I jab at the starter switch and can feel the bike wake from its slumber,a surge of fuel in its veins.... ignition... compression.... combustion. Then the throaty roar of the Remus warns onlookers not to get in the way. The City Cross is no shrinking violet!!!!!!!

Then we're out on the streets lookin for trouble. I meet up with a friend on a sports bike and we head for the coast. The country roads are twisty at first and i keep lookin into the Rizomas waiting for a glimpse of the friend i know is there somewhere, i ease off the throttle to give him a chance to catch up, when i see his headlight come into view i wring its neck all the way up to 100 mph, and he disappears once again. I'll teach him to buy a plastic rocket ship!!!

We cruise through a village and i keep the XB on a tight leash, it seems content to just threaten people and bark insults at the old and infirm. Then out into the country again and my freind catches me unawares and sails past me all sleek looking, tucked away from reality behind the screen, its all i can do to keep him in my sights and for an instant i wonder what it would be like to once again see 170mph on the speedo. The thought is quickly banished from my mind as a series of bends approach and he hits the anchors, im closing on him as if he's in reverse. I leave the brakes 'till the last moment and even then all it takes is my index finger to get the pads biting the rim mounted disc. I lay the bike on its side and the grip is awesome, then i spot what i think is diesel oil on the road and i wait for the front to wash out but it doesnt happen.Too late to take any action now even if it is diese. Were level now and i manage to get under him through the first corner, i sense his dented pride but i push on and stay in front through the rest of the corners and when the road opens up he seems reluctant to come past, he's learning!!!

The pecking order has been established and i lead the rest of the way. We get onto the final stretch of dual carriageway and there are no other vehicles in view..... time to see what my neck muscles are made of!!! The Yamaha behind me closes on me slowly ,as if asking permission to pass. He lodges his head firmly underneath the paintwork on the fuel tank , out of the wind and pulls away. I slowly twist the throttle as far as it will go. The last speedo reading i take is at 120mph, after this my helmet is violently shaking from side to side from the wind blast, im tempted to reach up and close the brow vents but decide not to risk it. I can see two of everything now, the two empty roads i can see convince me to keep it pinned and i soon catch up to my buddy who later tells me that he decided to ease off at 125mph. Its a long way short of the speeds i used to reach on the GSXR but so much more FUN! The wind blast at 100+ is like fighting three Mike Tysons!!! This all adds to the experience of riding a naked bike...................

We finally reach the Scarbrough coastline and park up. After finding a seat outside a coffee shop we look over to our bikes, there are already three guys looking the Buell over and my freinds Yamaha is just another " face in the crowd"..............

Julian

An excellent piece of written words and so nice it is non-fiction. Nice to see our UK brothers see it as it is.

Too effing close to you for comfort lol. Hull in other words.

I'm really bad with names, but do I have to compete with you for that lovely looking 23 year old chic at St Ledger then

Was at Pickering car show yesterday, then onto Whitby across the moor, which is a great road when it's not choc a bloc with cars and coaches. Not a problem yesterday though. Was in the Saab lol.

Nice route you took. Are you familiar with the Beverley to Malton to Pickering road? If not, I think you'll like it a lot.
