I have a new Pit Bull stand that is mighty nice and was wondering.. if the bike is on the rear stand can I jack up the front of the muffler to get the front wheel off (As I only have the rear stand)? Will it stay stable? Seems like it would be OK.

Should be just fine. Race teams do it all the time, except they use regular front stands.

For safety you would want someone to hold the handlebars to keep the bike stable. The stand will lift the rear end up and when you try to lift the bike from the muffler it will not be even. Since the rear is higher than the front of the bike, the center jack towards the front of the bike will exert the lifting force first, while the rear support will not touch the muffler. At this time, the center jack will begin to lift the bike off of the rear stand and there will be no stability to hold the bike upright. Unless you want to risk tipping your bike over...use a second person to help stabilize the bike. Now I am not saying it cannot be done without tipping your bike over, but when it happens.... Your call.

Sik_s WTF??

As long as you jack as far forward under the muffler as is possible, it should be OK.
Maybe make up a wooden cradle to support the muffler, with a recess underneath to fit your jack point.

(Remember your basic geometry?)

I'm with captain my bike was on my pitbull for weeks and had the front jacked up. I have a piece of wood I put under my drummer so it fits good then jack it up. Mine was very stable, only a few times I held on to the bike while I was tightening some big hardware. You will be fine without a front stand, if you have a muffler that can still support the bike.

Actually I ended up just hanging the front of the bike from the rafters of the garage with a come along, no rear stand. Worked good. Nice and stable too. Thanks
