seems like an ecm, silencer/muffler and k an N filter are in order for sure... cant figure out what to do with riding position or comfort until ive had the bike for a bit. my question is what mods are recomended right away... opening the air box? modifying breathers? spark plugs? synthetic oil.... suggestions?

The only immediate chores I can think of are getting the suspension adjustments right for you, and buying the service and parts books so you can get started understanding your bike.

What Kurosawa said.

Suspension, tires, and ergonomics first IMO. I recently saw a relatively new XB9R, with a shiny aftermarket pipe but still shod with original rubber and chicken strips. To me, that's a sad sight...

Ergos are important. I put a Helibars tripleclamp on mine, because I have short arms and the Helibars brings the grips closer to me.

Then find some twisty roads. Mods are for those guys who don't have roads...

There are plenty of great roads all around you.

Make sure your gear is up to snuff, and WSMC runs track days if you want to go faster.

The way these bikes handle will take a little adjustment on your part, and I really
recommend getting different tires (Pirelli Diablos get the nod from me) the stock Dunlops
are not really the best choice for the XB.
